Udupi: Gram panchayat members assault woman for opposing concrete road in front of her house

Udupi, Sep 6: The gram panchayat members here have assaulted a woman who opposed construction of a concrete road in front of her house at Atradi, injuring her on the head.

Concretization of roads was in progress by the Atradi Gram panchayat at Pareeka. The woman identified as Arati Shetty objected to it saying that the road passes through her Patta land.

Panchayat members Rathnaker Shetty, Chandrahas Shetty and Santhosh Poojary visited the spot in the evening of September 5.

While Arati Shetty and the men had heated arguments between them, Rathnaker Shetty, Chandrahas Shetty and Santhosh Shetty reportedly hit Arati Shetty with an umbrella untill her head bled and she fell down.

 

Arati Shetty has lodged a police complaint at Hiriadka police station in this connection.

A counter complaint is also registered by Chandrahas Shetty at Hiriyadka Police station.

    Very shameful and ridiculous act on the part of GP members. There is already a SC ordinance that no individual should come in the way of public development. If the lady opposed the construction of road on the land owned by her, they should have obtained an order or notice from the local court and the lady should have been compensated in accordance with the law.

    Panchayat members get commission from contractors.They are not interested to concretise city roads they try this in villages even though villagers don't want roads.
