Mangaluru/Udupi, Sep 8: Churches across the coastal districts celebrated the feast of Our Lady of Nativity, or Monthi Fest with joy and devotion on Thursday September 8. The celebrations at churches were grand this time following the restrictions for two years owing to the coronavirus pandemic.

The feast, marking the birthday of Mother Mary, is celebrated after the nine-day Novena.

Rosario Cathedral, Mangaluru

St Lawrence Church, Bondel

St Ann's Church, Thottam

Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo celebrated Monthi Fest Mass at St Ann’s Church, Thottam in Udupi. The bishop offered the Holly Eucharistic celebrations and enlightened the faithful on life of Mother Mary.

Prior to the Eucharistic celebrations, a procession was also held from St Ann’s Chapel to the church. Fr Denis D’sa, parish priest, St Ann’s Church Thottam was the co celebrant.

Monthi Fest has cultural significance. It is a harvest festival for Catholics. The feast food is a variety of vegetarian delicacies from locally grown vegetables. Newly grown rice is part of the feast which is symbolically distributed in churches after blessing.

Catholics from the twin districts spread across the globe celebrate this feast with utmost devotion.

I have treasured my childhood memories of Monthi Festh that we celebrated at home and in our rural church, I reminisce them with a lot of respect. Our late mother used to work all day preparing a variety of food for a family of ten that included several kinds of vegetables. We took several kinds of flowers to the church grown in Malnad area. Sang Sakd Sangatha Melya........ She kept the tradition alive for us to treasure. I miss the great tradition and fellowship.

Love your neighbor as you love THYSELF..... Sarginche raazak pavonk sezaryachya vatethlyan veche bov sompe. If neighborhood is good whole world is good. In emergency neighbors come running first than the relatives/friends like Kujuji/kbrji/purusanne/cynthia etc. So, leave your anger at your doorstep go run hug your neighbors and participate with them in their family meals. Next is your onam friend. She cannot come in emergency if any. So enjoy....Happy feast Shankaro. Now, dont write to me thst i take turns and interfering and answering the questions which are not solicited from me. Sorry bro.

I suggest you not to go to anyone’s house but go to the church and pray to your God as God is same to all. I don’t think Christians and church will mind you going to the church and raise any issue. That way you have visited all Christians houses. It’s just my suggestions without compulsion. Finally it is up to you. God bless you.
