Mangaluru, Sep 9: A youth, who was seriously injured after honeybees attacked him, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital of the city. A girl student and her father, who were also injured in the attack are recovering.

The deceased is identified as Jeethan Rasquinha (38), a resident of Ullalbail. Auto rickshaw driver Praveen Poojary and his daughter Dhriti are recovering.

Jeethan Rasquinha had climbed a coconut tree belonging to Bhavani, a resident of Ullalbail using a machine to climb. As he was plucking the coconuts, the honeybees who had made their hive on the tree attacked him viciously. The bees also attacked local resident Praveen Poojary and his daughter Dhriti who were going by Praveen’s auto rickshaw at the same time.

A seriously injured Jeethan was rushed to private hospital of the city, while Praveen Poojary and his daughter Dhriti were treated at a hospital at Thokkottu. Praveen Poojary’s condition also turned severe on Wednesday evening and he is shifted to private hospital in the city.

The incidents of honeybee attack are increasing day-by-day. A few days ago, a young boy died due to honeybee attack at Bantwal. There were cases reported from Kota, Uppinangady and Sullia also.

I am a beekeeper and every day I deal with honeybees....one small piece of information I would like to share is that honey bees never attack human until unless they found any danger near by...So...please if you found honeybees near you....please call a beekeepers to deal with it because we can deal with them without harming bees and human...if 1 or2 bees sting us, our body has used to it so It doesn't matter but for one who is not use to it....it can cause problem.....

It's not that harmful if one or 2 honey bees are attacking but when swarm of honey bees attacking chances of surviving is very less.

RIP! There are different treatments for bee stings, wasp stings and other insect bites based on the type of reaction you have; God only knows whether the physicians treating him had good experience in treating such cases on specific basis; he possibly had a severe anaphylactic reaction to the strings!!

Very unfortunate incident... If Bhavani knew about the nest on the tree she would have informed Jeeshan... May be it was not noticed at all... Usually honeybees don't attack unless disturbed... Very painful death it is... Slow and agonising... RIP to the departed soul...
