Udupi: CM nods for reimbursement of medical expenses to Koraga community

Udupi, Sep 14: The state government had stopped the reimbursement of medical expenses scheme for the Adivasi tribe, Koraga community if they obtained treatment for their serious ailments at private hospitals.

The community had staged protests recently urging the government not to stop the scheme.

A delegation of MLAs of three districts in the leadership of MLA K Raghupathi Bhat visited chief minister Basavaraja Bommai on September 14 and submitted a memorandum to him in this connection. The chief minister has responded positively to the requests and telephoned Manivannan, chief secretary of the department of social welfare to continue reimbursement of the medical expenses to the tribe subject to one time payment from the year 2023. Medical camps will also be held in the colonies where the community members reside.

Udupi district in-charge minister, minister of fisheries, ports and inland transport S Angara, chief minister’s political secretary Jeevaraj, Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Byndoor MLA M Sukumar Shetty, Mangaluru MLA Vedavyas Kamath, Mangaluru north MLA Bharath Shetty, Bantwal MLA Rajesh Nayak, Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian, Beltangady MLA Harish Poonja, Bhatkal MLA Sunil Naik, Kumta MLA Dinaker Shetty and Karwar MLA Roopali Naik were present.

    Very good move by the government. Not just this community, support poor families in other communities too who are holding BPL card.

    We are still waiting for Rs 15 Lakhs. We have opened bank account for this purpose and now we are paying account maintenance fees from our pocket.
