Bahrain: Young talents win hearts at Konkani Kutam annual competitions

Bahrain, Jan 29: The annual Konkani singing and elocution competitions of Konkani Kutam, Bahrain were held on Friday January 27 at the Karnataka Social Club. In its endeavour to promote Konkani language among children in Bahrain, Konkani Kutam has been organizing the competitions for the last 17 years.

Henry D'Almeida, conveyer of Konkani Kutam Bahrain welcomed the gathering. He reminded the parents of their responsibility towards their children and urged them to teach Konkani by talking Konkani in their household.

There were 51 entries in total. Children in the age group of 4 to 18 years participated in the competitions which started at 4:30 pm. The competitions comprised three categories of 4 to 8 years, 8 to 12 years and 12 to 18 years.

Winner - Sweeta Corda
1st runner-up - Ziona Franco
2nd runner-up - Delisha Fernandes

Age group 8 to 12 years

Winner - Rolwyn Martis
1st runner-up - Nathan Crasta
2nd runner-up - Alston Fernandes

Age group 12 to 18 years

Winner - LareensQuadros
1st runner-up - Orville Sequeira
2nd runner-up - Shreyal Vaz


Elocution

Age group 4 to 8 years

Winner- Ziona Franco
1st runner-up - Reshel D'Souza
2nd runner-up - Delisha Fernandes

Age group 8 to 12 years

Winner - Alston Fernandes
1st runner-up - Ansel Fernandes
2nd runner-up - Arline Rodrigues

Age group 8 to 12 years

Winner - Shreyal Vaz
1st runner-up - Rowyn Fernandes
2nd runner-up - Sujal Vaz

Winners were given away certificates, cash prizes and trophies. Consolation prizes were given to all participants. The judges for singing competition were Richard Pais, Sebastian Fernandes and Iggy Fernandes whereas judges for elocution competition were Philip D’Mello, Joseph Andrade and Roshini Pinto.

Comedy skit was presented by Stany D’Souza, Sujay Pinto, Maxim D’Souza and Nirmala Fernandes. A buffet was served by Shanghai Hut to everyone present.

Santosh Danthi compered the programme and Ronald Fernandes delivered vote of thanks.

    It's always a joy to read about Bahrain and all the community highlights pertaining to the community of Karnataka State existing in the small Kingdom. Lots of hard work and efforts go into the making of so many events that help our community, especially the children who are being encouraged by their respective parents and community leaders. So many young men and women are blossoming on the performing stage, and these children will prove to be our patriotic leaders that will represent their family, their community and their country wherever they go and whatever they do, It is a gratifying fact that Bahrain has always been magnanimous in rendering the best possible support, including the freedom to enjoy our talents and make "our home away from home" a success. One of these months we would like to visit Bahrain and renew some of our past aquaintances and connections, including some of the cordial relations created in Bahrain sixty years ago.
