Mangaluru: Woman ends life days before wedding, family blames groom-to-be

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Feb 11: A 26-year-old woman committed suicide under mysterious circumstances just five days before her wedding. Though the incident took place on February 8, her family approached the police on Saturday February 11 seeking justice.

Nandita, daughter of Krishna, a resident of Nagori, hanged herself in her room on February 8. A case of suicide was filed on the same day.

The family members said that Nandita's marriage with Chandrashekar from Kasargod was scheduled to be held on Monday February 13. The family was preparing for the wedding, and even Nandita was excited about it.

On February 8, Nandita's parents and brother went to meet Chandrashekar's family in Kasargod, leaving Nandita at home. When they returned home, they found Nandita locked inside her room. When she failed to respond to repeated knocks, they forcibly opened the door and found her hanging from the fan, it is learnt.

Sources said that while Nandita's parents were away in Kasargod, Chandrashekar spoke to her on phone. Though details of the conversation are not known, it is alleged that it led Nandita to take the extreme step. Neighbours claimed that Chandrashekar reportedly told Nandita that he was 'homosexual' and had called off the marriage.

The family members said that Nandita was excited about her marriage and was busy preparing, and that there was no apparent reason other than the phone call from Chandrashekar for her to end her life. The would-be groom and his family reportedly visited Krishna's house on Saturday and demanded to know the reason behind the incident. The police called both the families to the station and held talks. When the deceased girl's family blamed Chandrashekar for her death, the would-be groom's sister demanded proof for the allegation.

The Kankanady police who are investigating the case have taken Nandita's mobile phone to get details of the call records.

The bereaved family said that they would file complaint against Chandrashekar and his family.

Former mayor Mahabala Marla and Jagadish Shenava who are reportedly known to Krishna's family, had also come to the police station to testify that Nandita was of a good character.

When the groom is a homosexual why he agreed for the marriage. This has cost a girls life. Investigations be made and boy be punished for the death of a innocent girl.

Whatever reasons. But suicide not the solution.
She did this extreme step before her marriage. So that any matter can be solved. If she express her emotions with her parents.

So, were the neighbors listening to the phone conversation? In any event, how would they know what the Groom to be said? Even if he did call off the wedding for any reason, he would have done the right thing. The embarrassment would be his, not hers. There is no crime unless he asked her to kill herself.

it is the case ofweak mindset of the girl.although she looks educated and holding college degree but
not bold enough to see prevailing social changes happening in this world .the right step should have
broken the marriage instead of suicide which made the parents and relatives sorrow, presuming the boy might have told her over phone the real fact of his homo sexual habits, i don't think court will able to punish the the groom for the act suicide of his bride groom. but parents lost their lovely daughter.RIP.

Feel sad for the girl and family. When marriage fails girls should be strong in mind. Life is much more greater than marriage.

Very sad. Actually a through work is needed before any marriage. Otherwise things like this may happen. DOnt know what went wrong here or who is at fault All I can say is be careful before the marriage. Otherwise it will end in disaster like this. Many divorces can be avoided if we take proper steps and thinking before a marriage Once a marriage happens nothing much can be done. I am feeling extremely sad for the loss of an young life here. May such incidences never ever happen again in anyones life in future
