Mangaluru, Feb 12: Thousands of students, doctors and general public descended on the streets here on Sunday February 12 to participate in the 'Cancerthon' run organized by Yenepoya Medical University.
The run, aimed at creating awareness on cancer, was flagged off by chancellor of Yenepoya University Y Abdulla Kunhi at Forum Fiza Mall early morning.
Owner of Forum Fizza Mall B M Farook, chairman of Alva's Education Foundation Dr Mohan Alva, vice-chancellor Yenepoya University M Vijay Kumar, ambassadors Olympian Sahana K and ex-Olympian Vandana were present.
As many as 7,000 registered for the Cancerthon.
The run was held in various categories like 16 - 28 years, 29-45 years, senior category (46 years and above).
Based on distance, the categories were half marathon (21 km), 10 km, 5 km and 5 km fun run/walk (open to all age groups)
The Cancerthon was held as part of silver jubliee celebrations of Yenepoya Group.
The run culminated with the distribution of medals and certificates to the winners.
