Bengaluru: Sign of 'Dosti'? Modi praises Deve Gowda, punches Congress

Political Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, May 1: In an unexpected move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his first leg of the Karnataka assembly election campaign tour on Tuesday May 1 praised former PM and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda, saying he has immense respect for him.

In his first election rally, Modi said about Deve Gowda, "He is the son of this soil, and I have always respected him. Whenever he asks for my appointment, I happily meet him, I even go to his car to welcome him and walk with him to the car when he leaves."

In Udupi too he repeated the above and also slammed Congress president Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders for not showing enough respect to the senior JD(S) politician.

Though JD(S) too is an opposition like the Congress in Karnataka elections, Modi preferred not to attack the Congress and targeted only Rahul Gandhi and chief minister Siddaramaiah.

Modi's move has given strong indications to political pundits that it only 'confirms' the recent allegaton by the Congress that JD(S) was the 'B' team of BJP. Rahul Gandhi had even gone on to state that the 'S' in JD(S) has come to stand for 'Sangh Parivar instead of Secular.

It may be recalled that Deve Gowda had on Monday April 30 said that he would abandon his son Kumaraswamy if he joins BJP to form the government after elections in case of a hung assembly.

Political pundits say that CM Siddaramaiah's statement about HDK meeting with Amit Shah in New Delhi on April 13 has seriously dented the reputation of JD(S), which could even swing some JD(S) minority votes to Congress.

Meanwhile, the Congress was quick to hit back at PM Modi on his allegation of Rahul Gandhi 'disrespecting' Deve Gowda. In tweet, the state Congress said that the entire country has seen the kind of 'respect' Modi has shown to veteral BJP leader L K Advani who had helped him rise in politics.

Chief minister Siddaramaiah too latched on to the opportunity presented by Modi himself to attack the BJP on its 'secret deal' with the JD(S). "Modi has sung praises of Deve Gowda. JD(S)-BJP secret agreement is proved. Modi has criticised me for contesting from two constituencies. Then why did Modi contest Lok Sabha elections from two seats? Was it out of fear?" he tweeted in Kannada.

Whatever Modi or BJP does, JD(S) will not support BJP after election. They will go with Congress and they will make Kumaraswamy as chief minister. I have a feeling that Siddu is still agent of JD(S) in congress and recently they inducted more from JD(S). It is only drama now to fool people and after election, Siddu and Gowda will patch up.

BJP and JDS are allies in this election. Especially in districts like Hassan, Mysore, Tumkur and Mandya. With the alliance , BJP-JDS can easily form the government. I think, BJP will get close to 90 seats and JDS will get 45 and together they will form the Government.

Next time any Chaiwala contests the elections in India, the electorate should first spend their money and educate him and see that he gets a degree from the University and then contests the polls. India will then be saved.
Thanks to Modi for revealing the internal understanding between BJP and the JD(S). For Deve Gowda disowning his son is a joke. He can do it at the drop of a hat and is part of politics.

Who is praising whom and see the timing....sinking Ship BJP has realised the value of opportunist Deve Goes a and now the ring master is throwing his hat around and one can read between the lines!!! in a crystal clear way.

    Shame on you FEKHU.

Your government scrapped the age old institution called "Planning Commission " and you brought " NEETI AYOGH" and today "ANEETI" everwhere in the country right from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

Now your term is only left with less than a year....you & Amith Shah can create some communal unrest by instigating "Mandir" and "Hindu"cards and plan for one more "Demonetisation" by scrapping Rs.2,000/- notes....so the Indian citizens ....please be prepared for a few more volcanoes or call it cyclone or an earthquakes or finally a jolt or a shock from FEKHU & DAKHU.

This is a bit too much from Modi. Any sensible person can read it. The sense I am getting is that BJP themselves dont want to get full majority. I feel sorry for Yedyuraapa. ( I am not a fan of Yedyuraapa. But these kinds of things are bad)
The other possibility is that, they want to win as much seats as possible in 2019 loksabha elections and JDS will join NDA.
Overall JDS should be happy because they were anyway going to win a max of 2 seats in loksabha. I wont be surprised if Kumarasway becomes the CM with just 20 MLAs.
