Mangaluru/Udupi, Dec 31: Counting of votes in respect of gram panchayat election held recently continued till late night on Wednesday December 30. Both the Congress and the BJP have been claiming that they have secured an upper hand.

As per results available, BJP was ahead in Beltangady, Puttur, Sullia and Kadaba taluks, the parties had a neck to neck fight in Mangaluru, Bantwal, and Moodbidri taluks. In some gram panchayats, the Congress succeeded in making inroads in BJP bastions while in some others, BJP supporters succeeded in getting the majority. A clear picture about the result is expected to emerge on Thursday December 31.

SDPI has achieved significantly as several of its candidates won the election.

Even though counting of votes began at 8 am as scheduled, the progress was slow and cumbersome as COVID norms had to be followed at each stage and also because ballot papers had to be counted properly. By evening, full results of only a few panchayats had been published. In a few cases, recounting had to be undertaken.

A huge crowd was seen in front of all the counting centres. As per reports, BJP supporters bagged 1,810 seats in Dakshina Kannada as against 982 of the Congress. SDPI got 160 seats while 40 independents also won. 91 were elected unopposed.

In Udupi district, the BJP won 1,100 seats while the Congress secured 450 seats. SDPI got 8 seats. As many as 128 were elected unanimously.

The results of 2863 out of 3,131 seats have been declared in Dakshina Kannada. In Udupi, 1,750 results have been declared out of 2,385 seats.

Mangaluru/Udupi, Dec 30: A couple has been elected as members for Yedthady gram panchayat, Brahmavar.

Lokesh Nayak who contested in Yedthady second constituency in backward tribe category secured 234 votes and his wife Savita who contested in Yedthady first constituency in the backward class A women’s reserved category secured 567 votes. Both of them were victorious.

Candidate declared winner by toss:

Havanje gram panchayat results ended in a tie between two candidates. The winner of the same was declared with the help of a toss.

Udaya Kumar and Harish Shetty who contested in the general category secured 330 votes each. Therefore, the officials tossed a coin in which Udaya Kumar was declared the winner.     

BJP-backed candidates secured victory in Konaje gram panchayat by securing 15 seats. While Congress supported candidates won 12 seats. Meanwhile, the SDPI-backed candidates secured victory over two seats.

Candidates supported by the BJP have also emerged victorious in Balthila gram panchayat of Bantwal taluk. Out of 16 seats, BJP supported candidates have won all 16. Meanwhile, candidates supported by SDPI emerged victorious after winning the 8 seats out of 15 seats in Sajipanadu of Bantwal taluk. The candidates supported by the SDPI have won 7 seats while one seat witnessed a tie as both SDPI supported candidate Sulaiman and Congress-backed candidate secured 462 votes. Leading the officials to resort to a toss for deciding the winning the candidate. As SDPI-backed candidate Sulaiman won the seat, he was declared the winner. BJP-backed candidates only won three seats.   

BJP supported candidates also won the Sarapady gram panchayat in Bantwal taluk. Out of 11 seats, BJP supported candidates won six seats while the Congress-backed candidates won 5.   

BJP-backed candidates have emerged victorious across 10-gram panchayats of Bantwal taluk. While Congress secured a victory across 7-gram panchayats. BJP was successful in winning Sangabettu, Pilatha Bettu, Kavalamuduru, Uli Bailu, Ammunje, Meramajalu, Rayee, Ananthady, Idkidu and Mudnur gram panchayats. Congress won the Manila, Perne, Navooru, Korapady, Fajir, Kairangala, gram panchayats.

Earlier in the day, Peraje gram panchayat witnessed a tie. Out of 8 seats, Congress has won 4 seats and 4 seats were bagged by BJP.

BSc degree holder emerges as a member of Pavoor gram panchayat member. Mamatha was backed by BJP. Mamatha's parents came to Innoli as migrant labourers. She completed her BSc living in a tent.

Congress emerges victorious in Kariangala gram panchayat. Congress has secured 9 seats, BJP has won 3 seats and one candidate has elected unanimously.

A couple who contested for the election has emerged victorious in Navoora gram panchayat. Suvarana Kumar Jain and Thrishal Jain are the couple.

Recounting resumed for one seat in Konaje Gram Panchayat as there was confusion in counting. One seat is required for the BJP to hold administration in gram panchayat. 

At Konaje first ward, Congress supported candidates Iqbal, Acchutha Gatty, Ravi D’Souza and Rukhiya won the elections. BJP supported candidates Shashikala, Shekar Shetty and Rajib Shetty won in the 2nd ward, and Harishchandra Shettigar in the 3rd ward. Congress supported Devanna Shetty and Vanitha S Shetty also won in the 3rd ward. In the 4th ward, Iqbal from Congress and Geetha Damodhar from BJP won. Two BJP supported candidates Shailesh and Reshma won in the 5th ward. Prem and Shobha, both Congress supported candidates won in the 6th ward. Nazar Shah Pattori and Siddarth Shetty, both Congress supported candidates won in the 8th ward. Vedavathi and Rajeshwari, both BJP supported candidates won in the 9th ward. In the 10th and 11th ward, Vijetha S Rai, Ravi and Vijaya Ganesh, and Ramakrishna Pattori and Chitrakala, all BJP supported candidates emerged victorious.

BJP candidates emerges victorious in Kavala Mooduru and Raai gram panchayats. 

Elder brother Vijay Maben who contested in support of Congress won the elections against his younger brother Shridhar Maben who contested the polls in support of BJP for Enagudde 3^rd ward of Katapadi gram panchayat.

At Udyavar, Congress supported candidates Nithish Poojary and Sumanth won the election. At Korangrapady, Ranjitha and Ashish emerged victorious.

Ulaibettu 2nd ward clean swept by SDPI with candidates Azhar, Shamina and Shehnaz winning. 

SDPI has bagged 50 seats in the Dakshina Kannada.

In the prestigious Vandse gram panchayat elections, Congress supported candidates have won four seats, while the BJP supported candidates emerged victorious in three.

In this gram panchayat there are seven seats in total. In the first ward former gram panchayat president Udaya Kumar Shetty and Subbu emerged victorious while in the second Govardhan Jogi won in the general seat while the general woman seat was bagged by Geetha Avinash. In the third ward, Prashanth Poojary, Shashikala S and Sushil won over their respective opponents.

Congress had won all the seven seats in the earlier election. Recently, the issue of sudden closure and shifting of self-help centre had created a lot of furore among the general public. So this gram panchayat had become a prestige issue for both BJP and Congress.

At Byrampalli, 1st ward, candidates Prasad Mally, Anantha and Malini supported by the BJP won the election.

At Kallianpur gram panchayat, BJP has secured 2 seats and one went to Congress.

At Perdoor gram panchayat, BJP supported candidates Tukaram, Bhavani Kulal, and Manjula won the election.

At Talapadi, 3rd ward, SDPI supported candidates Ismail Shaafi (430) votes and Sumayya (450) votes won with elections. Boliyar 2nd ward, candidates Aboobalar Nazir, Jacintha Pinto and Maimuna supported by Congress won the elections.

Congress supported candidates Gayatri, Shalini R Acharya and Prakyath V Shetty won the election in Thenkanidoor gram panchayat.

Munoor gram panchayat second ward, BJP supported candidates Babu Shetty, Leelavathi and Surekha. Munoor gram panchayat, BJP candidates Kiran Shetty, Chandrakala and Congress supported candidate Vishalakshi won the election.

At Kodibettu Anjaru ward, K Lakshminarayana Prabhu and Vasanthi won the election.

Congress sweeps Mani Gram panchayat by winning 8 seats. BJP secures only 2 seats. Also, Congress supported candidates won 8 seats in Manila gram panchayat, while one went to BJP supported candidate. 

At Yedurupadavu ward of Moodushedde gram panchayat, two candidates supported by BJP and one candidate supported by SDPI won the election. Sajuddin of SDPI and Sharadha and Deepa of BJP won the election.

At Konaje 3rd ward, Congress candidates Gulabi won the elections with 372 votes and Devanna Shetty with 397 votes. BJP candidate Vanitha won the elections with 266 votes. 

BJP supported candidates received a massive blow after all eight seats were won by Congress supported candidates in Mani gram panchayat. Former president of Manila gram panchayat Rajesh Balekallu won two seats, Shridhar Balekallu, Vanitha Tharidala, Chandrashekar Pakalakunja, Geetha Palaneeru, Malathi NK Otepadpupu, Sujatha Mujoor won the election. In previous elections, BJP had won three seats. It may be recalled that BJP MLA Sanjeeva Matandur had campaigned in favour of BJP candidates.

Till 11 am, in Udupi district, 14 Congress candidates and 24 BJP candidates won the elections. As many as 126 candidates won election unopposed.

At Mangaluru-Moodshedde, two candidates supported by Congress, two candidates supported by BJP, and BJP supported two candidates in Yedurupoadavu won the election. Also, one SDPI candidate won the election.

At Talapady third ward, SDPI backed candidates Ismail and Samayya Nazir, Congress supported candidates in Munoor first ward, Naveen D'Souza, Veeta Lobo, at Pavoor first ward, Congress supported candidates Riyaz Ahammed and Ravikala won the election. Two seats won by the BJP supported candidates.

Congress supported candidate taluk panchayat member Padmavati Poojary, contested from Konaje second ward and lost the elections.

At Konaje 2nd ward, BJP supported candidates Shekar Koppal, Rajeevi Shetty and Shashikala won the election.

At Uppur gram panchayat third ward, BJP supported candidates Avinash Shetty and Nethravathi Poojarthi won the election.

At Uppur gram panchayat, seventh ward, BJP supported candidates Mahesh Kotian and Sumathi Kotian won the election.

In Gurpur-Mulur 2nd ward, Uday Bhat, Chandravathi and Balakrishna, all three Congress supported candidates won the polls. 

Konaje fourth ward, Congress supported candidate Mohammed Iqbal won the elections.

SDPI opens its account in Harekala gram panchayat.

Talapady gram panchayat in two wards, Zahir 2 ward and Mohammed in third world won the elections.

For the first time SDPI opens its account in Talapady.

At Kallianpur gram panchayat, Vishukumar and Rathna K Uchila won the elections.

At Kodibettu gram panchayat, Yashodha won the elections with 375 votes, Vinay Kumar with 396 votes won the elections.

At Kadekar gram panchayat, five Congress candidates Tharanath, Leelavathi, Sukanya, Indira Shetty, Ramesh Kotian won the elections.

At Bellampalli gram panchayat, Dayanand and Usha won the elections.

At Anjaru, Indira Poojary won the elections 279 won the election. Sandeep Kumar won the election with 412 votes

At Kukkehalli gram panchayat, Usha won the elections with 311 votes.

Pavoor gram panchayat Congress supported candidates, Rathikala and Riyaz won the elections.

At Amblamoger, Congress supported candidate Ravindra Kukkian and Shwetha supported by BJP won the election.

BJP supported candidates, Dayananda, Mamatha won the elections. Mumthaz of Congress won Amblamoger gram panchayat elections.

At Kurkalu gram panchayat, BJP supported candidates Praveen Kumar and Mallika won the election.

At Palimaru gram panchayat, BJP supported Mahesh Shetty and Rashmi won the election.

At Ellooru, BJP supported candidates Usha Rao and Raviraj won the election.

At Kodibettu gram panchayat, BJP supported four candidates won the elections.

At Yermal Bada, BJP supported candidates Indira S Shetty and Deepak won the election.

Majoor, BJP supported candidate Madhusudhan Salian won the elections and Vanitha won the elections.

At Kote, Congress supported candidate Prameela Prashanth Jathanna and BJP supported candidate Rathnakar Kotian won the elections.

Two BJP supported candidates Usha and Jayanand Naik won the elections At Kukkehalli.

At Hejmady, BJP supported candidate Mohan Suvarana and Suvina Furtado won the elections.

At Shirva Mattaru Manibettu, BJP supported candidate Suresh Nayak and Mamatha Shetty won the polls.

At Padubidri, BJP supported candidates, Shobha Shetty, Sandhesh Kumari and Jayalakshmi won the election.

Paduthonse gram panchayat Bengre ward, BJP supported Deerendra won the elections with 337 votes and Lokesh with 367 votes.

BJP supported Prathibha Baskar unanimously elected. BJP secured 3 seats, Congress secured 2 seats. 

In Udupi taluk, Congress supported candidate Prabhath Kumar won the election securing 290 votes.

Bhramavar Yadthadi ward Lokesh Independent candidate won with 80 votes.

In Sullia taluk, BJP supported candidate are in the lead including Ivathaklu gram panchayat.

Two Congress and two BJP supported candidates Anjar Sandeep and Vinay have won the elections in Udyavar gram panchayat.

Karthik Ballal won the elections in Amunje gram panchayat in Bantwal.

BJP supported candidates Richarad Goveas and Gayathri won the elections in Padanagady gram panchayat of Beltangady taluk.

At Belapu gram panchayat, Prakash Rao won the elections with 405 votes.

Congress supported candidate Farida won elections with 359 votes in Hejamadi gram panchayat.

At Badagabettu gram panchayat, Ganapathi Kamath and Lakshmi won the elections. Both are candidates supported by the BJP.

At Harekala ward, Congress supported Mohammed Hanif and Konaje ward BJP supported candidate Geetha won the elections. Also, SDPI supported Rehna Mohammad won the polls. 

At Kelarakala Bettu gram panchayat Anusha and Suresh won the elections.

Mangaluru, Dec 30: The first round of counting of ballots for the gram panchayat election which was held recently, has begun today at the MGC School, Bondel here.

The officials who are counting the ballot papers, have completed counting of about 20 percent votes. Counting is in progress relating to 315 seats spread over 37 panchayats.

Seventy-five tables have been laid out for the counting with ten reserve tables, informed Mangaluru tahsildar Guruprasad.

Election was held for 220 gram panchayats in Dakshina Kannada district. A total of 3,222 gram panchayat memberships are to be filled. As many as 7,275 candidates are in the poll fray. 91 have been elected unanimously.

Counting is in progress in 13 centres. Prohibitory orders are in place for a radius of 200 metres around all the vote counting centres.

In 73 out of 220 panchayats which went to polls in Dakshina Kannada district, BJP supported candidates are ahead. In 58, Congress supported candidates have carved out a lead.

As many as 651 panchayat members are to be elected in 37 panchayats of Mangaluru taluk. Twenty-nine among them have been elected unopposed. Eighteen among them are BJP supported candidates and 11 supported by the Congress. A total of 1,510 candidates are in the fray.

In Bantwal taluk, 837 members of 57 panchayats are to be elected. Fourteen have been elected unanimously. Eleven among them are supported by the BJP and the balance 3 are from the Congress. As many as 1,925 candidates are in the fray.

In Moodbidri taluk, election was held for 12 panchayats. As many as 193 members are to be elected. Seven among them have been elected unanimously. Five among them are BJP supported and two are supported by the Congress. A total of 419 candidates are fighting it out.

In Sullia taluk, 282 vacancies in 25 panchayats are to be filled. Six candidates have been elected unanimously, all of whom are BJP supported. A total of 636 candidates are in the fray.

In Puttur taluk, 22 panchayats have gone to the polls to elect 343 members. Twenty-one have been elected unopposed. All of them are supported by the BJP. As many as 704 are in the election fray.

In Kadaba taluk, 285 members from 21 panchayats are to be elected. Seven members have been elected unanimously. Five among them are from the BJP and the remaining one is supported by the Congress. As many as 642 persons are testing their luck here.

In Beltangady taluk, there are 46 panchayats. A total of 631 memberships in these panchayats are to be filled. Seven persons, all BJP supported, have been elected unanimously. As many as 1,439 candidates are testing their luck in this taluk.

Udupi

In Hebri taluk, nine gram panchayats went to polls. 255 candidates are fighting it out for 122 seats. Out of 115 seats for which election was held, seven were elected unanimously. There are 39,542 voters in these villages.

In Udupi taluk, there are 16 gram panchayats having 111918 voters. As many as 803 candidates are trying their luck to fill 329 seats. Nine have been elected unanimously.

Kundapur

Polling was held for the 530 seats of 43 gram panchayats in the taluk recently. Though the total number of seats are 554, as 24 candidates were elected unanimously, polling was held for only 530 seats. The counting of polls has started on Wednesday, December 30 at the Bhandarkars College in the city.

Out of 259 gram panchayat seats of Byndoor taluk, seven candidates have been elected unanimously. Counting of votes for the remaining 252 seats is under progress at the Byndoor Junior college.

At 7 am on Wednesday, December 30, under heavy police protection, the door of the safe room, where the ballot boxes are kept, was opened in the presence of Raju K, assistant commissioner of the taluk and the ballot boxes were shifted to various rooms for counting.

The fate of contestants for the 530 seats of Kundapur and 252 seats of Byndoor will be known within a short time.

Counting for gram panchayat polls underway coastal districts

Mangaluru/Udupi/Kundapur, Dec 30: Amid the Covid pandemic, the counting of votes for gram panchayat (GP) elections in Dakshina Kannada (DK), Udupi and Kundapur that went for polls in two phases, began at 8 am on Wednesday December 30. 

The counting process beagn at Mahatma Gandhi Centenary High School, Bondel in Mangaluru while the same was conducted at St Cecily's Institutions Brahmagiri in Udupi. The counting process is also in progress at Bhandarkar's college in Kundapur. 

The results will be updated at regular intervals on the official website of the state election commission -- karsec.gov.in and ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in.

Elections were held for a total of 91,339 seats in 5,728 gram panchayats of 226 taluks in Karnataka and 2,22,814 candidates were in the fray. Already, 8,074 candidates are elected unopposed in both phases.

Poll officials said that elections were held for 43,238 seats in the first phase on December 22, while voting took place for 39,378 seats in the second phase on December 27.

While the first phase had seen a voter turnout of about 82 per cent, it was slightly less than 81 per cent in the second phase.

Even though these polls don't take place on party symbols, all the political parties had put in efforts to ensure that the candidate supported by them wins, so as to have their hold on grassroot level politics, which may prove advantageous for them in taluk or zilla panchayat and even Assembly polls whenever they happen.

The ruling BJP had conducted a spirited campaign by launching its Gram Swaraj campaign much ahead of its rivals Congress and the JD-S with the aim of securing at least 80 per cent of the total seats.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa even on Monday claimed the ruling BJP supported candidates are likely to win the majority of the seats.

"According to my information, it is certain that 85-90 per cent BJP supported candidates will get elected in the gram panchayat polls," he said.

There are 6,004-gram panchayats in the state but the elections were announced only for 5,762. The elections for other 242 panchayats could not be announced due to various legal issues.
