Capt Brijesh Chowta’s intervention; jobs for displaced families at GMPL to be finalized by Sep 30

Media Release

Mangaluru, Sep 17: The employment issues faced by the project displaced families (PDFs) at GAIL Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd. (GMPL) have been resolved, following the intervention of Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta. The Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas responded to his requests, expediting action on the matter. The employemnt for the displaced families at GMPL is expected to be finalized by September 30.

In a letter to MP Captain Brijesh Chowta, Ayush Gupta, director (HR) of GAIL (India) Ltd. and chairman of GMPL, confirmed, "GMPL has received the requisite clearances and the issue has been resolved."

Expressing his gratitude, Captain Chowta said, "It gives me great joy and contentment to receive this letter from the chairman of GMPL, informing us of the clearances and resolution regarding the absorption of the Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) project displaced families at GMPL."

He also thanked union minister of petroleum Hardeep Singh Puri for convening a meeting with officials, including Petroleum secretary Pankaj Jain and GAIL CMD Sandeep Gupta, to discuss the issue in August.

The issue stems from GAIL India’s acquisition of JBF Petrochemicals’ plant, which had promised 115 PDFs full-time jobs, but GMPL had only offered contract-based employment. Captain Chowta, in a letter to Minister Puri, urged the government to honor JBF’s original commitment to the PDFs.

Following a meeting on August 7, 2024, union minister Puri assured quick resolution, which has now been facilitated. The employment process is set to be completed by September 30, 2024.

“This resolution underscores our government’s proactive, people-centric governance under PM Narendra Modi," said MP Captain Chowta.

MP initiated some good move , Mangalore is more potential for petrochemical field now. So being a MP if he helps local engineers and others to get a job in such sector would be appreciated more. There is no need to relocate gulf countries when our soil is potential for petrochemical experts.
