Poem: Parents

September 16, 2011

Parents

Two lives merge to create a life
One that grows in their tender loving care
A father who looks on, with concern and pride
A mother who nurtures, the child she bears.

A li'l flu throughout the night
sleepless,the parents stay
a little tantrum thrown immaturely outright
at times they give in, and at times, nay!

They look out for you through ups and downs
when they sense you seem happy
when they sense you seem to frown
But not once do they reprimand you for your clumsiness
Oh how you're amazed at their acceptance of your silliness!

They want you to learn life the hard way
Yet, they don't want you to go through the trouble
they are always by your side when you falter
they lift your spirit up when you feel its bound to crumble.

You grow older and rebel,
feeling they are beyond you to get you;
But you fail to recognize their plan
their advice just goes through and through.

Then you begin to earn, you fall in love and marry
your spouse and would be kids;
are your constant interest and worry.
You fail to pay heed to your parents-
who once cared for your trivial affair,
You feel it's a waste of your time
to give them your tender love and care!

Then one day they leave you, never to return
and you miss their warmth you knew not you had
Is there any point in being sorry then,in mourning or in being sad?

Give them then what they deserve, when they are alive and healthy and well
Then only will you be blessed in abundance, and in bliss will your family dwell!

Lovely article Pam. You have captured the truth. We parents consider our kids, whether 25, 50 or 75 years old, still to be our babies and when the cuddling, hugging, good bye kisses disappear, we find a void in our lives. So children set aside some quality time for your parents, they too need your love till their last breath and they can only wish you good luck and pray for your good health, safety and success.

Odes like this very nice, very touching to read
But to practice, well that’s different indeed.
If your parents don’t get your care, not your fault today
For they asked for it by uncaring theirs yesterday.
Harsh and bitter this may sound but that’s the reality
What goes around comes around is the moral of the story

So true n touching. Ask the feelings of those who have lost both of them and be thankful to the Lord for they being alive and take good care of them as the quranic prayer taught by Almighty:
"My Lord, have mercy on both of them (my parents), as they cared for me when I was a little child." (17:24)

    Wonderful words indeed Dr.

    Parents worry
    Parents Cry
    Parents share
    Parents bear
    Parents love and care
    Parents ask no return
    Parents welfare is your turn.

The Dear Dr has so exquisitely crafted this poem that it would be hard to believe that there are no 'self experience' behind it! Being at the twilight of my life span and having aged parents with me i have never rebelled but wonder whether I give them the time they now deserve. Touches upon sensitive issues the poem really does, giving an insight  of one who can really 'feel'.
