Rolling back those pages of wonderful memories of school days, when we were in first standard, our teachers inculcated in us certain mannerisms, certain behavioral patterns which were supposed to be made permanent for life time. These included the way to talk, the way to greet, the way to thank etc."Thank you, sorry, please, excuse me" were the strong positive words fed in our brains to be used as tools of good communication .I still remember when my mother stressed on certain questions to be answered like if someone asks you
"What is your name?"
You are supposed to reply "my name is Roshani.”
"Which class are you studying in?"
"I am studying in 3rd std in St. Gerosa girls’ high school, Jeppu”.
Every word was chosen carefully, to be taught by our elders, parents and teachers. Added to it most importantly, we were been taught how to respect our fellow beings and elders. We used words like Mr., Mrs., sir, madam to address people.
But what went wrong once we grew up.?The tools for good communications were replaced by those harmful violent weapons which not just murdered that particular language but also the insights of the person who is listening to it. The answers now have advanced in its version.
The questions are posed this way
"Ninna ammeyrna pudhar dhaadhambey bevarshi?"
Oh my god!! Look at the beauty of the sentence.
Reply from the other side comes like.
"Mooji kaas dhay!!! Muja bappachey vishey thuka kaaleyg?"
These are few common local language identifiers and beautifiers- byavershi, muji kassdhay, andey pirki, pira-manday-pett, randay maga and the list continues. Every word has its own meaning and the usage of these could be in a humourous or harmful way. It is almost equivalent to violence in some cases. Imagine a situation where two people are indulged in a very severe physical fight and usage of such slangs like "bayvarshi randay maga" is like adding loads of ghee onto the already existing fire instead of using the extinguisher to put it off. The words are in regard to those people who have brought into this earth, in turn i believe it is a kind of emotional violence. Like the usage of full stop, people add this very word called "saavu" at the end of each sentence. It is as though you are commemorating the death of that particular person whom you are addressing every time you use this word. It might have a bad impact on the listeners sentiments and emotions. But in a city like Mangalore usage of these words are common in day to day life.
Coming to the English version of this slang we have a series of identifiers like stupid, Idiots, morons, buffoons , bastards, duffer etc and the list goes on. If you have noticed these stupids, idiots, morons are the class of mentally retarded people whom you find in hospital psychiatric wards .Topping the list is the noble award winning word ever discovered "f*** u". This word has indeed spoilt the beauty of the English language.
A: Are u well prepared to answer the exams today?
B: f*** u man bastard .u study well and expect me to do the same. Bloody god dam mother f***er!!!!!!!!
A: Why dint u attend the morning session?
B: Well i was f***ed up in my grand moms place. Had no mood to attend those f***ing lectures
Anywhere, anytime, at any instant "f*** you" has become a standard for the people these days. It is immensely inhuman at the part of the users to address. What is the use of us being so much educated if the mere values and lessons of education don’t reflect in our words, behavior and mannerism? People especially the youngsters feel that usage of such words defines a standard of life or its classy or cool to use such words.
But they do not know that such class of users do not sustain in the hearts of people for long. One would rather want to talk to person who would be using humane words than slang words. The persons sight itself creates tension in your mind. It is almost so irritating to listen to such emotion damaging words.
Yet we find some group of friends who use it in a humourous way to address their friends and we also see that people seem to be ok with such names but the actual situation is when they are in a state of mind which is not stable and then they get to listen such slang terms from their best friends. Whether they tell o not somewhere deep down sometime, the heart it hurts.
Also a group of people believe that it is ok to use such slang once in a way at your own privacy but yes in public it is image destroying. Almost all languages have these so called slang which seems to be occupying more space in the sentences than the normal words .Impact is a lot on those children who see their parents use such words and without even asking for its meaning they inculcate the same in their language. The saga continues!!
Keep yourself in a position where u r termed so, where u r abused with such slangs. How would you feel? If u can feel the pain, then all we can start doing from now on is watch our words. Think twice before we utter certain words. Use a polite and kind way to address people. Because earth always follows the "law of gravity", Whatever u throw up thinking it won’t return, will certainly come back to u itself....
What goes around comes around...so WATCH YOUR WORDS....
