Learning to Stand Up
She was beaten, she could not speak
She had become feeble, frail and weak
Her eyes looked wet, sore and bleak
She had become so submissive
She had become so meek
She was misled
She wanted to scream
The night would surpass
But not the bad dream
Perhaps she never knew, he would commit such a disgraceful sin
Perhaps she never knew him
By no means had she acknowledged all of this was a trap
He just tossed and threw her into crap
He held her down so she could not escape
Screams rumbling all over the landscape
The society had made it too hard to confide
That she could not articulate what her life had in stake
Even then I caught her tear
All her prayers I did hear
When he abused her, I was there
I never left her but I taught her to dare
She had to stand up and fight
For what was lawfully right
So that the darkness passes by
So that she crosses the threshold towards the light
Her life looked like a messed up puzzle with some missing parts
But she still believed, that she could transform it into a beautiful piece of art
Her life was work in progress, she was not yet done
The battle she stood up for was yet to be won
She stood her ground
And it was herself that she found
She laid down the law
And the truth is what she saw
She never understood the credibility they lack
Thus the only thing she had to do is fight back.
