This is about the challenges faced by me when I got admitted to a hospital for the first time in my life of 20 years.
Silent night and pain
Around 3, early in the morning, I got admitted in the general ward which was full of silence, everyone sleeping around me. I was connected to the IV set and drips were going on. Everyone there in the room hoped one day they would move out of their health problems or illnesses.
Everyone was sleeping; I was awake waiting for the sun to rise.
Middle of the night I realised I had faced the fear of injections. Three times, my blood was taken, got two injections and later got the IV set fixed for drips.
When your will power to come out of your present situation is strong, no fear of yours can stop you from facing it bravely.
As 6 in the morning passed by, people around me woke up. They gave a smile, and asked me about my issues and cared for me too like asking me if I wanted them to get something for me. I was later shifted to special ward.
My hand was swelling because of injections. I was facing pain and fear every second in that bed and room. But I had made up my mind I would come out of this and lead a healthy life again. And this had become an inspiration for me to face my fear with courage.
Loneliness
Each time the nurse entered the room to give medication which was painful I only had one thought in my mind – I won’t give up and will co-operate fully till the treatment is done.
I learned - when you make up your mind no pain can stop you from facing the pain as bravely as possible.
In the special ward, nobody was around me. I could see my very small family – my mother – trying her best to help me, and the doctors too. But whenever they left the room, I realised how lonely I was feeling with the pain.
I realised your loved ones can’t be next to you always. Some things are learnt and faced alone for a reason. And the reason is, to make you stronger than what you were a few seconds back.
Learning
Life teaches everyone in a different way. When you are in tough times, learn to build courage to come out of it, let go of it, have patience and never give up. And most important is a positive attitude.
Learn to smile even when you have challenges with pain. Your pain will never be a pain but a challenge for you to overcome it happily.
Fear is just a word, don’t hear the fear
Hear your strength to overcome it always
People around you or not should never make you feel lonely. You are here for yourself, it is not necessary for others to visit you when you are sick.
If you keep the courage to fight it out, you can come out anything you want to.
