Education is the process of facilitating learning or acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs and habits. If one has a good education, he/she progresses personally, socially as well as economically. Education has numerous benefits and is an essential aspect of living.
In this way, a school, being a centre of learning enables one to sharpen the skills that he/she already has and promotes one to learn more to become successful in the future. But what would happen in the absence of learning in educational institutions?
As soon as the virus came into town, education has been neglected. Our daily activities such as going to school and attending extra-curricular classes paused and are not yet resumed. All everyone can think of is taking extreme care of their physical health. Unfortunately, no one even bothers about improving their mental health anymore.
Little children are now locked up in their respective houses without any new knowledge to fill up their or any new activities to occupy them throughout the day. Every day, new wisdom crosses their way but suddenly their whole routine is disrupted. Will it not be extremely difficult to continue schooling once the pandemic subsides?
The parents of these children are struggling to manage their work as well as take care of their children who demand constant attention. Cranky children gradually become uncontrollable as the days pass by. Each day, parents ponder on the thought of how they can entertain their children or at least keep them peaceful enough to sit quietly without throwing a tantrum.
Teenagers are getting moodier than ever, being cut off from the rest of the world and having an active social life. Wasting time has become the norm nowadays. Teenagers have become addicted to surfing the net. For teenagers who are granted endless freedom, a bit too much I would say, education is not considered a priority. There is a lack of motivation in their lives. What will they do in the future? Lockdown has left these poor teenagers in despair.
Being a teenager, I have also many such challenges. However, sitting at home, I learn a few hours a day as well as teach a boy who comes to our house as education is a priority in our family. As for me, relaxation has helped during this period of lockdown. Before corona, there was always something bothering me and always something to be tense about. Stress, stress and more stress! I developed anxiety as homework books piled up on my desk. Once this lockdown began, I learned how to smile more and stopped being depressed all the time. In a way, the lockdown benefitted me.
On the other hand, the entrance exams and +2 exams play an important role in the formation of careers of adolescents. However, after the strike of this terrible pandemic, nobody surely knows when these exams will be held. Each mark counts in this rat race. Due to the injustice caused by this uncertainty, these students' careers' can be destroyed in the blink of an eye. Nowadays, teachers have to unwillingly drag themselves for valuation. This inconvenience has left the whole education system in a trance.
The mental ill-health of youth is on the rise. Why? This is due to a lack of social activity. Presently, there are more mobile phones in one's house than books. Youngsters even commit suicide when they are asked to discount using the internet. Youth have forgotten the act of self-love. In this way, more and more lives have been destroyed.
I think these problems should not be ignored. Life cannot continue in uncertainty forever. Can it? This helpless situation has shaken the minds of young, active minds and made them dull and inactive. In the time of corona, we must never forget education. We must work toward creating a brighter future by learning as much as we can during this period.
