Today's obituary is a bit different—it's about books. Wondering how? Books are considered to be man's best friend, aren't they? Indeed, because for those who might not have many friends, books provide companionship. They offer knowledge, new insights, and transport us to fairylands. Have you ever noticed that when reading short stories or novels, you can feel the characters, their adventures, and their emotions?
In today's world, the most important thing that has taken control over our lives is the smartphone. Have you ever wondered why these phones are called smartphones? Here's why: smartphones make our lives much easier, with everything we need just a click away. You will definitely agree with me that whether it's for reading books, shopping, paying our bills, or even searching for holiday destinations, we need our smartphones. Now, not just kids and teens, but even adults can't live without their smartphones.
While I agree that we have a lot of e-books like Amazon Kindle and Apple Books, which we all use or have installed on our phones, have you ever felt that something is missing when reading these e-books? I have. The physical books on our shelves are colourful, bright, and handy. Every page of a physical book has eye-catching colours, headlines, animations, illustrations, and pictures. Have we ever found these features in our e-books? No, we haven't. It's just long, boring paragraphs that don't make us feel like reading. Moreover, e-books emit rays that can harm our eyesight.
Unlike in the past, when people had better attention spans, today's generation finds it difficult to concentrate in class or even read a page of a book they have chosen for themselves, thanks to YouTube shorts and Instagram reels that provide instant five-minute information.
If you miss the feeling of taking a trip to a fairy tale, go and get yourself a good book. It will give you back the experience you lost while scrolling through e-books. Books are a great way to distract yourself from stress, boredom, and anything else that makes you feel uncomfortable. So, go and grab a book now.
