Dear Do..Re..Me..Fa.. browzers,
I am back here again to play before you yet another sweet musical chord of Do..Re..Me..Fa.. which you have been anxiously awaiting month after month. Undoubtedly, I am indebted to you for your great support and encouragement without which I would not have been here today.
In my zealous drive in searching for a music star to present to you for this month, I found yet another shining star who is my childhood friend. We belong to that great parish of Bendur, Mangalore. My close-knit relationship with his family goes back to over 3 decades. ‘Sound of Music’ is the breath of this music loving family. The family whom I am referring to is the ‘Pinto’ family of Kadri, Shivabagh, Mangalore and the shining star who I am going to present to you today is the scion of this Pinto family who is none other than Sri Joswin Pinto, fondly known as ‘Jovie’.
Music flows in their blood. Jovie’s mom Emy Pinto is a talented singer who is one of the important members of Bendur Church Choir for the past 3- 4 decades. His brothers Vivian (a popular Chartered Accountant in Mangalore) & Merwyn are also great musicians.
As I feel it is my unique privilege to present to you this shining star in your favourite Music column, I am sure you will really enjoy listening to this sweet music.
See you then, next month same portal for yet another sweet chord of music. Until then, bye.
Yours in Do..Re..Me..Fa..,
Gerry D’Mello, Bendur.
JOSWIN PINTO
‘KING DAVID’ OF KONKANI MUSIC
Relatively young but a well known lead guitarist of Mangalore, Joswin Pinto is a promising instrumentalist who has devoted his talents and energy in the service of Konkani Music. Though always at the back stage as an accompanying musician, Joswin Pinto is a familiar figure at all the Konkani Musical events and recordings in Mangalore.
Joswin and his family :-
Joswin was born on 6th May 1962 in the parish of Bendur, Mangalore. His parents (late) Stany and Emy Pinto (a current prominent choir member of Bendur Parish) and his brothers Vivian & Merwyn fondly called him by the pet name “Jovie”. Jovie had his education in the prestigious institute of St.Aloysius College from where he obtained his B.Com., degree.
Even during his student days, Joswin was attracted to music. With great interest and enthusiasm, he took part in all the music competitions held at his college and at his parish, Bendur. Listening to music and watching music plays was his passion. As a youth he joined the Catholic Action League, the youth organization of Bendur Parish also known as the ‘cradle’ of many great talents like (late) Sri Vally Vas, Prof.Alban Castelino, Dr.Austin D’Souza Prabhu, Claud D’Souza & so on. Here he got many opportunities to perform on stage. With the interaction of like-minded musicians, Joswin and his company of friends started a beat group called “Cosmic Rays” which has of late celebrated its ‘Silver Jubilee Year’.
Joswin’s family members, specially his two brothers Vivian and Merwyn, rendered Joswin great encouragement to pursue music. His friends Claud D’Souza, a great composer/singer and Christopher Mascarenhas of ‘Chris Electronics’ too were his staunch supporters in his musical endeavours. Joswin is also greatly indebted to Konkan Kogul Sri Wilfy Rebimbus and his family for the opportunity they have given him to be a member of their musical troupe and for all their support.
Joswin Pinto currently resides at Shivbagh Road, Kadri, Mangalor
