Air India Pilots Call off Strike, to Resume Work

New Delhi, May 6 (PTI): Air India pilots tonight called off their 10-day-old strike after Government agreed to reinstate sacked and suspended pilots, restore recognition to their union and look into their complaints of irregularities.

Over 800 pilots, belonging to the erstwhile Indian Airlines and owing allegiance to the Indian Commercial Pilots Association, as also executive pilots, will return to work tonight, Capt A S Bhinder, the association president told reporters here.

Emerging after five hours of tough negotiations with the Civil Aviation ministry officials, Bhinder along with ICPA general secretary Rishabh Kapur said all the pilots sacked and suspended during the stir would be reinstated.

ICPA, which was derecognised soon after the agitation started, will be recognised again, they said.

"Government has given us assurances that they will look into all our demands including our complaints of irregularities against the airline management," Bhinder said.

One of the major sticking points was the demand of the pilots for compensation of 75 'fixed flying hours allowance', which their erstwhile Air India colleagues get.

The striking pilots have been demanding that all sackings, suspensions and transfers effected during the strike period be revoked, ICPA's recognition be restored, the contempt of court petition filed by Air India management be withdrawn, a CBI probe into the alleged corruption and mismanagement be ordered and all other issues be tackled in a time-bound manner.

Asked about their demand for removal of AI CMD Arvind Jadhav, Bhinder said, "our answer to this is that Government has agreed to look into all the irregularities".

Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi expressed happiness over the pilots ending their stir. "Their is no ill feeling and there will be no feeling of vengeance," he said.

Asked about the fate of the contempt notices in the Delhi High Court, he noted that the court has fixed the next date of hearing for May 25.

Public should Boycott Air India. Due to Air India Pilots strike Government of India lost 200 Crores. Striking Piolts Father will pay this amount. Next year budget will come. This is all Tax Payers Money. Why the Piolts were taken back to work who was on strike for 10 days and put the passangers in trouble. If the Government wanted to to make a deal with the piolts and agree for their demands, they could have done it earlier also as Laxmi is saying. Why they had to wait for 10 days. Shame on Civil Aviation Minister whoever he is. Government was just watching the Tamasha. Curses on AIR INDIA PIOLTS who went on strike.

The whole country and passangers were put in to misery for 10 days for no faults of theirs. So many people lost their jobs Overseas, important Meetings due to AI strike for 10 days. Who is responsible for al this. If the Government wanted to give Assurances to Pilots, they could have given it earlier. Why it took 10 days for the Government to decide this. This has become a Tamasha every time. Government sack striking Piolts and reinstate them later on. What the Civil aviation Minister is doing ? It takes 10 days to decide about such a important issue where Thousands of Passangers are depended on ? What rubbish. There is nothing to feel happy that the Piolts resume duty and strike called off. Did the Piolts give a Notice before going on Flash strike ? Who will answer all this questions ? No One. This has become a Nuisence every time once in a year. More than 100 Crores are lost. Who will repay this. This is has to be cut from the Striking Piolts Salary. Anytime AI Pilots go on strike. That means there is no Rules and Regulations for AI Piolts. Why Supreme Court is not taking action in this matter. The Civil Aviation Minister is saying "There is no ill feeling and there will be no feeling of vengeance. Nice statement Civil Aviation Minister is giving. Congrats to the great Minister of Civil Aviation. That means the Piolts can go on strike any time and hold the whole country is to ransom whenever they feel. No action is taken and everything is forgiven.

The Govt. budging to the demands of pilots for undue/unlawful demand shows Govt.'s inability to tackle the silly matters. Our central Govt./Ministers least bothered about the loss because they are confident they will make good the loss with peoples tax money in one way or the other!
THE POOR STRIVES FOR ONE TIME FOOD IN A DAY AND THE PILOTS ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH THE DAILY INCOME OF THOUSANDS OF RUPPEES A DAY ! THE GOVT. WANTS POOR MAN'S VOTE BUT
FAVOUR GOES TO RICH. THIS IS INDIA.
