Mangaluru, Dec 22: The lady who fell into an open gutter on December 19 at Jyothi near Laxmidas Jewellery has been shifted to the ICU of a private hospital.

Precilla Pereira (57) from Merlapadav had fallen into an open gutter. A family member said, “Precilla fell in an open gutter and injured herself. She went to a hospital nearby and consulted the doctor there and returned home. On December 20, her condition worsened. She was vomiting and had body pain. Her daughter took her to a private hospital where report suggested that she had suffered serious head injuries.”

Precilla is in the ICU and under observation for the next 3-4 days. Doctors said that she has a blood clot. The same can be removed with the help of medicines and injection. If not, a surgery should be performed on her.

Precilla’s husband is driver and they have two children. Her family members said they will file a complaint at the police station regarding the incident.

It may be recalled, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has filed a criminal case against Airtel company at Bunder police station for their negligence after an elderly woman fell into an open gutter.

Smart city should have a smart and fast justice system to compensate those injured by the negligence of a contractor or the city itself. The erring person or company should also be warned to ensure they do not repeat it. Only when it hurts peoples pockets will there be good results.

Even after this incident MCC has not woken up to cover the exposed footpath in the city. A quick survey will reveal countless traps all over.

The cost of treatment and compensation to Precilla, should be deducted from the salary of the engineer/supervisor/inspector of Airtel/MCC, only if the responsible person is punished financially things will not repeat. There are various Hon.Supreme Court judgements that officials can be held personally responsible for negligence.

MCC should be held responsible also. They r the authority, they can sleep or dance with Airtel. For public safety its MCC responsibility. Court should impose hefty fine to Airtel, MCc should borne all the treatment expenses besides compensation.

OMG. For some irresponsible people others has to suffer. First file a criminal case against the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC). They are the main responsible, then who ever the contractor. But main responsibility on MCC spot inspector who failed to implement safety aspects. What is the use MCC filing case against contractor? IF Contractors failed to follow safety protocol, MCC too failed. MCC don't have any safety inspector to implement safety protocol? All medical charges of her shall be born by MCC.
