Chhattisgarh to Give Cheap Grams in Maoist-hit Districts

Raipur, May 29 (IANS): Chhattisgarh's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would launch a scheme Sunday to provide subsidised grams to the poor in five districts in the Maoist-hit Bastar region, officials said.

The gram supply scheme is to be launched at a function at Jagdalpur, some 300 km south of capital Raipur.

Officials said that from May 29 roughly 4.5 lakh below poverty line families would be entitled to get one kg gram every month for Rs.5.

The government claims that the scheme will help poverty-hit families of all the five tribal-dominated districts of Bastar region - Bijapur, Narayanpur, Kanker, Bastar and Dantewada.
