Karwar, Jun 8: In a heartrending incident, a farmer named Eerappa Jatta Naika died following atrocities by the forest department officials on Monday June 6.

Eerappa, a poor 50-year-old farmer in Padushirali Bengre had encroached some land in Katagaarakoppa Kerehonda under the limits of Koppa panchayat long ago and nurtured coconut, banana and arecanut trees. He was leading his life completely depending on the agriculture. But in past few years as many as four times the forest department officers aimed at his cultivated land and demolished all plants. But Eerappa with all his efforts again raised a fruitful plantation at the same place.

But the forest officers, though they had more than 100 acre of land in nearby areas in their name, on Monday again eyed on his plantation and destroyed coconut, arecanut and banana plantations.

It is not yet known whether there was any clash between Eerappa and forest department officers if or Eerappa collapsed when he saw his crop destroyed.

On Eerappa not returning home, his daughter assuming that he was at the  plantation, came to the spot onlu to be shocked to see her father’s dead body lying in the farm house. She rushed to village and informed the fellow villagers. Soon police and tahshildar informed.

Sub-division officer Gayathri Naika, tahsildar Raju Mogaveera, revenue inspector Shastri, circle inspector Guru Mathura and Murudeshwar sub-inspector Laxmana Poojary among others rushed to the spot. When the officers decided to send the body for the postmortem, the villagers opposed saying that they would not allow the body to be taken until the superintendent of police and deputy commissioner arrived.

DC B N Krishnaiah and district SP Ramesh arrived and assured the protestors that serious action will be taken against the forest department officers. They also assured that the poor family will be compensated to the maximum, and that the land will be legally recorded in the family’s name.

In this regard the son of the deceased farmer, Ramachandra Naika registered a case in Murudeshwar police station. SI Laxmana Poojary is investigating the case.

I dont understand why a native was cleared off of encroachment and the mallus all along the western ghat buffer zones and reserve forests idulging in illegal Rubber/lemon grass and lavancha farming and wildlife gaming are not cleared off. Is it political pressure or good incentives to the forest department for not doing so. Although, encroaching upon reserve forest land is a strict NO NO who ever it may be...We have to respect the law of the land for our own sake or head for a huge ecological disaster. But who is going to explain all this to some of our farmer brothers.

Poor Erappa Naik! His soul rest in peace. This is the state of poorest of the poor in India. There is no scope to come up for poorest of the poor.Erappa Naik tried hard to come up but at last lost his life. This one incident is just tip of the iceberg. There are many incidents like Erappa but are unnoticed.Whichever govt comes for power their plight is the same. This is because they are backward in all the areas like poverity, education etc. They are in the same level since 64 years of independance.

Well done forest officials you all have done the right thing law is a law for every one keep it up guy's. He did not steal your land, he was only cultivating some crops for his lively hood nor did he make the land in his name. Now that he is dead did he take the land with him to heaven, I am sure this poor man will certainly go to heaven and you people will be rotting in the hell. If I was there I would have shot you again and again until you were lifeless.

The state of Karnataka is in a state of abundant negativity. Under the ruling government the forest department have caused life to cease of a farmer who is the foundation of the economic stability , acting under all certainty of doubt. Sure documents will now be CREATED. Interestingly a few acers in question have been eyed , not the devastation caused by the illegal mining. Sometimes wonder what hold the center from imposing presidents rule for the longest permitted period under the constitution in the Land of many wonders.

Poor Earappa not only lost his livelihood but also his self-belief that he could not fight the authorities, who were hell bent on destroying what he had produced. Meanwhile, our rich reddy brothers, shriman yeddi and others of BJP are all illegally gobbling land for their benefit.

In karnataka: only money and bribe talks, and honest and the poor walks!

Its a shame that an incident like this should happen. In our country laws and rules are to be followed only by the poor. Who gave the demolition order? What about the acres of land grabbed by the rich. Does the forest dept. have the guts to even look that way. India Shining or is it India in an eclipse.

It is very unfortunate incident and guilty forest officials has to pay the compensation to the diseased family. These officials has no sympathy towards the hapless farmer Eerappa and the same Forest department allowed thousands of acres of land for illegal mining!Yeddy need to take up this case on compassionate ground and rush help to the family of poor Eerappa.

He was neither stealing not looting. Atrocities are committed only on the hapless and the hardworking. The real poor who struggle to live have no place in india.

Atrocious and highly condemnable act by the authorities though the farmer was at the wrong end of living on supposedly encroached land. This is the country we live in. The more poor one is more the harassment. Instead of rehabilitating, our Govts. literally pull them down and kill. It is an irony that even God and nature too does not support the weakest of the weak. In fact, these are the true citizens of India!!

Concerned forest personnel's should be made liable for the death of babanna. Concerned officer would have initiated other legal actions than destroying the crop.We can remember here the Land Acquisition officers action in our brother Pathrao's Land in Mangalore.

The poor man cultivated the land with toil and sweat. Destroying the fruit of his hard labour can cause any one heart attack. How much would he have cried helplessly when he was being denied his daily bread. Law is good, without which society won't exist, but to treat a poor man in this way is tragic.
