Mangaluru, Feb 14: The second highest flagpole in Karnataka, measuring 164 feet, has been built in the courtyard of Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital in Deralakatte by Nitte University. On Tuesday, February 14, IGP Chandragupta, West Zone, hoisted the first flag on the new pole.
The hoisted flag measures 30 ft x 45 ft. The pole has an electrically operated hoisting and unfurling system.
IGP Chandragupta stated that sacred acts such as the large-scale hoisting of the National Flag will fulfil thoughts of uplifting the country through noble values and the tricolour will convey the message of sacrifice, bravery, self-confidence, peace and harmony.
N Vinaya Hegde, chancellor of Nitte (DU), stated that the organisation has been running a hospital in Deralakatte for 24 years. "It is an honour to unveil a massive national flag as we celebrate the silver jubilee of the institution. While entering an educational institution, every student should salute the National Flag." he said.
He also added that while size and height are unimportant, the significance of the Tricolour should be widely known.
