Udupi, Feb 14: A first of its kind international immigration information centre that assists in securing jobs abroad has come up in the labour department, deputy commissioner’s office complex, Rajatadri.
If one is interested in working abroad, What are the qualifications required to travel abroad for employment? What are the legal processes one is likely to face there? Who should be contacted when in case of issues? What are the processes to be followed to safely travel abroad and return? What should be done when one encounters problems abroad after going there making huge payments to private companies and middlemen? The international immigration information that clears all these doubts is in Udupi district itself now.
It is one of the four such centres opened by the state government for the workers in the state through the labour department. The organization run by the government is providing all the assistance to the people travelling abroad for jobs. It will provide details of job opportunities abroad, guidance, registration under management information system, details of the job contracts and the precautions to be taken during travel.
Necessary help will be available from the government if one goes abroad through the centres. The centre will be in constant touch with the organizations that provide the job. It will provide necessary assistance from the Indian embassies in the particular countries and help one to obtain insurance claims and the amount of welfare funds.
The centre will verify the credentials of companies abroad who seek employees and ensure that the employees do not face unnecessary problems.
The centre will take extra initiative about the female employees going abroad for work. The centre will collect details of employees who return from abroad and provide information for their rehabilitation, solve their grievances and help to obtain their insurance payments.
The centre will provide eight hours training to candidates before travelling abroad regarding precautions to be taken during and after the flight and preparations.
The centres have been opened at Udupi, Davangere, Vijayapura and Yadgir at present. More than 40,000 people from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada are employed in the Gulf countries.
