Karkala, Feb 17: A man here lost Rs 7.63 lacs in an online fraud. The victim of the fraud holds SB accounts in SBI and ICICI Bank, Karkala.
A Facebook account holder named Felix Dais got acquainted with the victim on Feb 4, 2023 making the victim believe that he was staying in Cyprus, Europe and promised to send parcels to the victim as gifts for the Valentine's Day.
The fraudster then sent photos of the parcels to the victim's WhatsApp number on Feb 13, 2023.
Meanwhile, a stranger posing himself as a Delhi airport staffer telephoned the victim from the phone number 9870189535 and asked him to deposit Rs 47,000 for parcel ground pass. The victim transferred the amount to the said account from his HDFC Bank account.
Later, the caller asked the victim to send money for various purposes. The victim sent Rs 1,00,000 and Rs 79,500 from his HDFC Bank account on Feb 14 besides amounts of Rs 3,00,000, Rs 1,00,000 and Rs 1,37,000 from his SBI account on Feb 15. The total amount remitted and the loss incurred by the victim amounted to Rs 7,63,500.
The victim lodged a police complaint of cheating with the CEN station in this connection. A case under registration No. 25/2023 section 66(C ) and 66 (D) IT Act has been registered at the police station.
