Mangalore, Jun 12: A visit to the houses of Chandrashekar and Devadas, at Thandolige Mane, Jeppina Mogeru village, Mangalore taluk shows the blatant disregard for the poor in our ‘civilised’ society.

Their houses are located in a hilly area. One Praveen Chandra Rai purchased land adjacent to their houses. He later dug 100 feet deep in the soil leaving the two houses in a precarious situation. Last year the drainage pit of Chandrashekar’s house collapsed after a landslide and now cracks have developed in the walls of the small house. Since the rains began the family is living in constant fear of their house collapsing.

Next door, Devadas’ single roomed dwelling is also facing the same threat. These two families had requested Praveen Chandra Rai not to dig the land too deep. But their pleas were ignored. The families also requested him to at least construct a concrete wall. But this request was also ignored.

Both families are very poor and are struggling to cope with the crisis. Chandrashekar who is a coolie, has health problems as well. His wife Sunitha works as a sweeper at lodges in the city. Their elder son could not continue his education due to financial difficulties. Their daughter studies in the 10th std. Devadas makes pappads for a living.

After their requests were ignored, the two families had filed a case against Praveen Chandra Rai with the Kankanady rural police station.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Kankanady rural police sub inspector Prakash said that charge sheet has been prepared to be submitted in the court of law. The two families are waiting hopefully for the situation to change.

The two families have also requested assistance from individuals and philanthropists. The details are as follows:

Mr.Allwyn,USA,please note that Law and Order is disorder in City of Mangalore. It is who you know, how you know and how much you shell out(in other word how much you bribe)Builders are out of control and above the law. A poor vegetable merchant cannot sell vgegetable on foot-paths to make his living but a Private Bus Owner can park His huge buses on foot paths and on main roads to wash them at any time of the day or night. This action does not obstruct pedestrians walking but only the Vegetable selling does obstruct.
A poor person cannot have standing water near their house because health officials will take actioon.
At the same time a Congress minister can own a property near Kadri Pumpwell on which not only mosquitos but also pythons,Cobras,Mongoos, stray dogs and huge Rats can breed as nuissance to public health. Not only that the City Corporation can release the Raw Sewer to River and Ocean from which fish is eaten by public. This is Mangalore. Come visit it.

This Praveen Chandra Rai should be made to pay all the damages if any. These people should not have waited so long they should have filed a complaint when the digging started now only solution is to build a concrete wall to stop from collapsing.

The arrogant Praveen Chandra Rai should be put behind the bars, immediately, unless he provide the required arrangements, for the sake of these 2 houses.

It is really very sad that poor families in India always betrayed by the political leaders, law & order departments, Government authorities, and every rich people. The Mangalore Mayor, Responsible Minister, and local MLA must act on this issue and make sure that this family will get right of living.

Is this a ploy on Pravinchandra's part to force these poor to leave the place and grab their land otherwise why a 100ft deep trench?
In India the theme is "Jisski lathi uski bains"! Nobody cares for the poor and downtrodden. The rich poor divide is widening evermore!!
