Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

Guwahati, Jun 13 : Archbishop of Guwahati Thomas Menamparampil has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his initiatives to bring peace among ethnic communities of the North East.

The Archbishop's name has been nominated by a popular Italian magazine 'Il Bollettino Salesiano' which also published a four-page story on Menamparampil in its June edition titled 'A Bishop for Nobel Prize'.

"I had not expected the nomination, but was overwhelmed by it. I was told about the possibility of such a development during my visit to Rome last month," Menamparampil said here on Sunday.

"The award does not matter while carrying out peace initiatives. I will continue my mission for peace irrespective of whether I get any recognition or award. The need of the hour is adopting a non-confrontational attitude, tolerance and respect for each other for lasting peace in society," the Archbishop said.

During the last fifteen years, Menamparampil has successfully led seven major peace initiatives -- Bodo-Adivasi in 1996, Kuki-Paite in 1998, Dimasa-Hmar in 2003, Karbi-Kuki in 2003, Dimasa-Karbi in 2004, Bodo-Muslim at Udalguri in 2010 and Rabha-Garo in 2011.

"The people associated with Church negotiating peace in a conflict situation may not be considered a politically correct act, but when Church leaders and eminent citizens from warring factions join me in the conflict resolution process, it is making the Word of God come alive in the lives of people," he said.

It is commendable that Archbishop of Guwahati Thomas Menamparampil is recognised for his initiatives to bring peace among ethnic communities of the North East. News of atrocities towards christians and Christian missionaries as a result of distrust and intolerance is common especially in north India. Working for peace in northern parts of India where political vested interests are mostly in conflict with religious affairs is highly risky. Hope His highness the archbishop is conferred on the peace prize.

    The Archbishop's driving force
    is the "JESUS OF NAZARETH".

    MAHATMA GANDHI was greatly
influenced by the (be atitude)beatitudes of
    JESUS CHRIST. Mathew 5:3-16.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of
    GOD" 5:9.

God led you to be a key player in
7 disputes and enabled you to solve
    them peacefully. So many human
    lives were saved, also avoided
the creation of a battalion of
    widows and orphans.

Archbishop MENAMPARAMPIL: we are praying to God that you
will be elected to receive the
    Nobel Peace Prize, because you
    deserve it through your past
    earnest efforts in creating
    peace in volatile situations.

This is a good news for all who appreciate tolerance and respect for each other.

"Archbishop of Guwahati Thomas Menamparampil has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his initiatives to bring peace among ethnic communities of the North East."

Thomas Menamparampi has been trying to bring peace for 15 years to the North East.

He leads a convincing life as archbishop combined with a strong faith and the wish that people from various backgrounds in the North East shall live in a prosperous and peaceful environment.

I agree with him it is very important to adopt a non-confrontational attitude, tolerance and respect in order to achieve peace and a future for the people of the North East.

He never has given up his efforts and he has has successfully led seven major peace initiatives Bodo-Adivasi in 1996, Kuki-Paite in 1998, Dimasa-Hmar in 2003, Karbi-Kuki in 2003, Dimasa-Karbi in 2004, Bodo-Muslim at Udalguri in 2010 and Rabha-Garo in 2011.

We as Christians shall express our gratitude and support his efforts and initiatives to bring lasting peace by our prayers and worship.

Thomas Menamparampil told The Hindu on March 30, 2009, "Ahimsa as a concept is much deeper than non-violence, revealing fullness of its meaning in Jesus as he confronts violence with serenity and strength.

He is a follower of Gandhi and a true Christian.

    Best regards

I am happily overwhelmed with the the nomination of Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil for the Nobel Peace prize and for his following words I quote from the article:
"The award does not matter while carrying out peace initiatives. I will continue my mission for peace irrespective of whether I get any recognition or award. The need of the hour is adopting a non-confrontational attitude, tolerance and respect for each other for lasting peace in society," the Archbishop said. Unquoate.
MAY OUR LORD AND GOD BLESS HIM ABUNDANTLY.

Couldn't agree more, your Lordship. A Christian Catholic Bishop negotiating peace with different communities is indeed a living example of the Word of God coming alive, which I am sure, has happened after crossing so many risks and hardships. Praise the Lord for giving us the Ambassador of peace.
