Mangaluru, Mar 4: A fire broke out in the forest area of Puttige Odyaya, which falls under the limits of Konaje gram panchayat near Subramanya On Saturday evening. Locals who noticed the fire informed the forest department, who took immediate action and extinguished the fire. It is said that miscreants lit this fire.
Rubber trees were burnt near Gadkallu of Sampaje on Saturday, which caused a private rubber estate and cashew farm to be gutted. Locals and fire service personnel extinguished the fire, but the reason for the fire is unknown.
Trees and bushes on more than five acres of land were burnt, including the Hindu crematorium on the second cross road of Vidyapura of Kabaka gram panchayat limits. The solid waste management unit near the crematorium was also damaged.
On Saturday, the forest near the main entrance of Kajekaru Sri Maha Devadeveshwara temple under Bantwal taluk caught fire. As the fire service engine of Bantwal was not available, a team from Mangaluru was called, and they were able to bring the fire under control.
A fire was noticed on the hill at Pambathamajalu under Kodippadi gram panchayat limits of Puttur taluk on Saturday. Gram panchayat members and locals were able to extinguish the fire.
On Friday night, fire again erupted on Kadamballi hill of Mundaje in Beltangday taluk. The fire burnt until 7 pm causing widespread damage to nearby rubber estates. As the fire service engine had gone to some other spot, locals tried hard to control the fire. The fire engine arrived after three hours.
