Mangalore, Jun 16: Noted philanthropist and entrepreneur Ronald Colaco distributed Rs 12 lac worth of scholarships, school bags, and books to more than 500 children of policemen at a programme organized at the police commissioner's office on Thursday June 16.

Speaking on the occasion, Colaco said he had decided to distribute the scholarships to encourage education. “The police are dedicated to maintaining the law and order and combat the toughest situations to help the citizens of a state and their contribution cannot be valued,” he said. He added that reaching their goals through education should be the aim of the children.

Colaco also pointed out that organizations should come forward to help the students in their education. “Many poor students are deprived of education for lack of encouragement, and even a small contribution may support a poor child in continuing his or her studies,” he said adding that education is the best tool to improve a person.

Inspector general of police (Western Range) Alok Mohan said that the donation by Colaco should be treated as an encouragement to education and the students should become top achievers.

Commissioner of police Seemant Kumar Singh, in his inaugural speech, said that support to education is always the best contribution, as a student remembers it throughout his life.

Colaco distributed scholarships of Rs 50,000 each to 11 PUC students of police department staff. Students who scored above 90 percent in SSLC received Rs 25,000 and others received Rs 20,000.

Twenty-six SSLC students received the scholarships. School bags containing eight note books and one geometry box were distributed to 500 students.

Superintendent of police Labhu Ram, deputy commissioner of police (crime) Mutturaya, DCP Para Shetty, Austin Peris, Denis D'Silva, Roshan Castelino, Santhosh D'Costa and others were present. Panambur police station HC Linent D’Souza compered the programme.

It is so cheap for Mr. Austin to use this public forum for personal attacks! For your information, Link was started by me as a students movement in Roshni Nilaya on 25 August 1991 and the citizens committee was formed on 5 November 1992 with Mr. Colaco as its first president. People in Mangalore knows what I was to Link. The scholarship for the children of alcoholics was initiated by me in 1997 and it was continued for the past 13 years.

Mr. Colaco had supported this scheme for 2 years. Since you came at the later stage and never tried to understand its history and vision, please note Link is a registered charitable public society and it is not depend on any single individual. As the initiator of this organization, I acknowledge with thanks the financial support of nearly 6 lakhs rupees given by Mr. Colaco for its various programmes in two decades, till I left in Jannuary 2010. Mr. Colaco is a great man, who has supported many such causes.

This is a very innovative social calling for the benefit of merit studens of police staff.

God bless you and may your example touch the hearts of many who can afford to sponsor merit students of financially weak families.

The Management Committee Members of Link are surprised at the suggestions of Mr T.S.Thomas on an issue like this kind of a Noble work of Mr Colaco. Mr Thomas, you had been employed by Link as a Project Co-ordinator & you were paid your Salary throughout the period and the Management Committee expected from you to make this Link self growing and self sustaining. Unfortunately, you kept the Organisation always dependent on Mr Colaco's financial help every now and then during your tenure in Link.

Even after receiving financial aid from Welfare Dept. of Govt. of India, (wherein the Link Management Committee designated you as Project Director), you never brought this Organisation on the self sustaining platform. Whatever the financial Aid given to Alcoholic children has come from none other than Mr Colaco during your tenure which kindly recollect. Helping the children of Alcoholics has continued even now at a much higher pace than before.

You have left Link by serving a short period notice and without training a right person to be appointed in your place,to further your own prospects in Sri Lanka. Therefore kindly desist from making suggestions about Link activities and Mr Colaco's involvement in it.

Good Job. We all know the police are paid very less and that is the main reason they become currupt.I wish there could be more people who can come out with these ideas and better ideas to help the police families.I scroll down this news a couple of times looking for Nayak's comments.

I find great value in what T. S Thomas says. Mr. Colaco, founder Chairperson of Link, Thomas and me are well aware of the plight of spouses and children of Alcoholics and these families find it hard to meet costs of day to day living and education. We all agree that children should not pay for their parent's mistake. Like Thomas I request Sri. Colaco and kind hearted people to partner with LINK Anti Addiction center at Bolar to sponsor these children. Link Phone No. 824-2426890

Mr Ronald Colaco is one of the few entrepreneurs, who has made it a personal commitment to help people of different walks of life, caste, community and religion, without expecting anything. He generously support any worthy cause besides funding social and infrastructure development projects, construction of temples, mosques and churches, schools, roads, community halls etc. He has been supporting causes often ignored by others, without expecting anything in return.
My only request to him is to take a personal promise from all those whom he has helped that they should also try to help others according to their capacity. Even the students, whom he has helped, must promise to help at least one student every year the beneficiary can be anybody outside his immediate family. That way, Mr Ronald Colaco's efforts would bear fruit many times over. He would have helped the community. All the beneficiaries must also extract similar promises from those they help. May God give Mr Ronald Colaco and his family strength, happiness, good health and bless him with prosperity. May God bless you.

    very good step towards development.Congrats.
I would recommend Mr. Colaco to please reserve atleast 50,000 annually for continuing to support the education of the children from Alcoholic families, a much more deserved group, which has not happened since I stepped down from Link as its Director after serving it for 18 years. As the owner of Link, I hope he will consider this too.

I have known Ronald Colaco for some time but it was a pleasure to renew my contact with him just last after-noon at the Office of The Inspector General of Police - Mr. Alok Mohan.

Ronald has all along encouraged people from different segments. His contribution to help the children of Policemen is indeed a great gesture. Perhaps one of these youngsters will one day be an I.G.P. or even a D.G.P.

I am sure Ronald was inclined to come forward to help the youngsters from the police force as he must have observed the excellent work that is being done under the tenure of our present I.G.P. Mr.Alok Mohan and the commissioner Mr. Seemath Kumar Singh. The recent addition - Mr Labhu Ram will I am sure continue the tradition set by his predecessor Dr. A.S. Rao.

MR. RONALD COLACO: As you did
last year, you are repeating the
same this year, which is highly
    commendable.

" For God loves a cheerful giver.
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always
having all sufficiency in all things, may have an ABUNDANCE for
every good work" 2 Corinthians 9:7-8. (Bible).

    Hearty congratulations and prayers:
and let the promise of God enable
you to give crores of Rs. as
charity in the days ahead to
    various projects to educate and
to wipe the tears of thousands
    of people from all religious
    and political backgrounds.
