Mangalore: 25 Artists Create 'Sanchalana' at Art Exhibition in City

Mangalore, Jun 25: As many as 25 talented artists from the city, under the banner of 'Karavali Chitra Kalavidhara Chavadi' held 'Sanchalana' (Movement), an art exibition at Prasad Art Gallery here on Friday, June 24.

Deputy commissioner Dr N S Chennappa Gowda inaugurated the five-day exhibition by lighting a lamp.

Hailng the efforts of the artists, he stressed that there was a need for more such exhibitions to promote art in the city. He also assured his full support in setting up an 'Art Centre' in the city. He also lamented that today Indian media focusses less on Indian culture and more on breaking news.



































He accepted a memorandum presented by the president of Chavadi association Ganesh Somayaji requesting the establishment of an Art Centre of minimum 4000 sq ft within the city limit so that talented artists in the city could contribute more in the future.

Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief of daijiworld, who was the chief guest, said that Indian artists are loved all over the world. "Young artists who have contributed to the exhibition have a brilliant future, and their works are a testimony to their talent," he said and urged other mediapersons to promote artists so that their valuable works could reach the people.

Another guest of the programme, Ramadas Adyanthaya, dean of Lalita Kala department at Alva's College, Moodbidri, said that art should be promoted in more venues within the city . He expressed disappointment over the fact the city's Town Hall, intead of promoting art and culture, has been playing host to commercial and social events like wedding.

President of the programme, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, who is also the president of DK Kannada Parishat, appealed to the young artists to promote peace and not become rebellious or violent in their art. Referring to M F Hussain, he said art should always highlight the positive part of life and not portray negative feelings that could create controversies. He assured support from Kannada Parishat for artists and also urged the DC to support the construction of the 'Art Centre', which has been a dream of Mangalore artists for the last 25 years.

Noted artists of the city, K P Shenoy, Vishnu Shevgoor, Ganesh Somayaji, Permude Mohan Kumar, Sayyad Asif Ali, Sharath Holla, Anil Devadiga, Santosh Andrade, Taranath Kairangal, Vishwas M, Harish Kodialbail, Jeevan A S, Saysh Rao, Veena Srinivas, Sudha Nagesh Nayak, Sapna Noronha, Reshma Shetty, Harish Marne, G Kandan, Zubair Kudla, Tyagaraj M, Pranesh K S, Jeevan Kumar, Wilson Kayyar, Ramachandra Kamath, Pramod Raj and Dinesh Holla participated in the exhbition.

Dinesh Holla, secretary of the association proposed the vote of the thanks.
