Beltangady: Accident on Charmadi Ghat - One dead, five injured

Beltangady, Apr 10: A car that was going from Kottigehara to Ujire, fell into deep gorge on the second bend of Charmadi Ghat killing one person while five others are injured. The accident occurred on Sunday April 10 night.

The inmates of the car were family members of Ujire gram panchayat president Pushpavati R Shetty. They were returning from Shringeri Koppa after partaking in a funeral.

While Sarojini Shetty, relative of Pushpavati died, Pushpavati Shetty, her daughter Poornima Shetty, grandson Samruddh, Sakshi and car driver Arun are injured.

All injured were shifted to Kakkinje Sri Krishna hospital, SDM hospital Ujire and Benaka hospital. Sarojini Shetty and Poornima Shetty were shifted to Mangaluru for higher treatment. However, Sarojini Shetty died on the way to Mangaluru.

Apathbandhava Sinan Charmady, president of SDPI Charmady gram samiti, who got the news of the accident, got involved in bringing the injured from the gorge. Manoj Beetige and locals cooperated with Sinan. Car driver Arun also put in lots of efforts.

Pushpavati’s hand got fractured in the accident, but she is out of danger. Her daughter Poornima has received head injuries and is being treated at private hospital in Mangaluru.

Sarojini Shetty’s is a widow. She is survived by one son and scores of relatives.
