Bengaluru, May 24: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday asked all Congress legislators to work unitedly for the development of the State and winning the maximum number of seats from Karnataka in 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Addressing the Congress legislature party meeting at Vidhana Soudha, he said all Congress legislators must remember that the people have voted overwhelmingly in favour of the party with lot of expectations and it is the duty of everybody to work for fulfilling them.

The Congress Legislature Party warmly applauded U T Khader, who will be the new speaker of the 16th legislative assembly.

The CLP meeting also extended warm welcome to Latha Mallikarjun, who had won from Harapanahalli constituency and has joined the ruling Congress party.

Siddaramaiah accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and other cabinet ministers asked the party legislators to actively participate in the legislature proceedings and must be ready to effectively oppose all the divisive tactics of BJP, which had fared miserably in the elections.

“We must be vigilant to protest against the discriminatory policies of the Narendra Modi-led BJP regime at the Centre in the allocation of funds despite the State contributing the highest tax revenue in the form of taxes and cesses,’’ he said.

Siddaramaiah said the Basavaraj Bommai regime and the BJP MPs have failed miserably in protesting against the discrimination from the Centre. The State did not get Central support during floods and natural calamities and during the Covid pandemic.

“We must give a befitting reply to the BJP by ensuring that Congress wins the maximum number of Lok Sabha seats from Karnataka,’’ he said.

DKS sets target of winning 20 LS seats

Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who is also the KPCC chief, asked the partymen to work for winning at least 20 out of 28 lok sabha seats from the State.

“Apart from the 2024 elections, we must concentrate on capturing the BBMP polls. We cannot remain complacent after the spectacular victory in the assembly polls,’’ he said.

Shivakumar said along with the legislators, the ministers who will be assigned responsibilities of being in charge of different districts must work in coordination with the local leaders and strengthen the party organisation. There is need to establish party offices in all assembly constituencies.

The KPCC Chief said the legislators must accord top-most priority to strengthen the party and protect the interests of party workers.
