London, Jul 21 (IANS): French veteran Nicholas Anelka has said he does not want to leave Chelsea and will fight for his place under manager Andre Villas-Boas.

"I never said I wanted to leave Chelsea. Even if there's an offer from someone else, I don't care because I am seeing out my contract at Chelsea, one more year," Anelka was quoted as saying by The Daily Telegraph.

"I said in the beginning when I signed that I wanted to stay until I finished my contract. I still have one more year and I'm happy."

Anelka was bought by Chelsea in January 2008 for 15 million pounds from Bolton Wanderers. But with the form of Didier Drogba, the arrival of Fernando Torres and the 4-3-3 formation the club have favoured under different managers, the Frenchman has struggled to play consistently as a central striker.

"I played wide last season, I don't mind playing wide, on the left or the right, through the middle. I've played through the middle since I started playing so, of course, I will be better through the middle. But I can adapt for the team," he said.

Anelka's change in role was was appreciated by former manager Carlo Ancelotti but he knows that he needs to "prove" himself under Villas-Boas.

"You always have something to prove because when you are in competition, playing in a big club like Chelsea, then you are always fighting for your place," he said.
