Mangalore: Gas Connection Chaos - Consumers Annoyed

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (VA)

Mangalore, Jul 24: Soon after the news related to gas connection issues was carried by the media on Saturday July 23, consumers flocked district offices, only to be disappointed.

Many of them found that even after submitting all necessary documents, their names were missing or marked for verification.

The food and civil supplies department officers said that the servers were down which irked the consumers.

The angry consumers in large numbers knocked the doors of taluk and district offices and sought explanation for the issue. They complained that though they had tried to upload information on the website mentioned in the government advertisement, they could not do so. The officials at the help desk were of no use, they said.

The usernames and passwords given to officials reportedly did not work, and new ones will be given. Deputy director Sharanabasappa said all matters will be resolved by Monday July 25.

The consumers were asked to bring copies of their LPG consumer cards or LPG bills and also the electricity bills.

The department heads concerned told the consumers that they need not worry if their names are missing from the website or if their gas connections are barred. Within 15 days all the problems would be solved and re-examination of all the names and documents in each connection would be done, they assured.

Now the customers themselves can upload their names onto the website. All they need to do is to visit www.ahara.kar.nic.in and can enter their ration card and R R number. Within 10 days of uploading, their names would be added to the website.

    The names of consumers in most Mescom Bills are wrongly spelt as the contract for data entry was given to people who were not good at it. So the names in Mescom bills and Gas records do not tally giving excuses to the Government staff to further harass the consumers.

    BJP Ministers have made lots of money with mining. they want people to suffer with gas now. Even After price hike why they are creating problems. Why did they stop new Ration card & renewal. Rather concentrating on the Scams, they want people to run behind basic Needs, So that they will forget Scams by BJP & Congress

    This is another source for corruption. Is anything progressing in govt offices without bribing? For some it may be just 'teething problem'. If the subsidy is removed by the central govt the acyuial cost will go up to Rs 800/- per cylinder.

    This shows the apathy of the government system. I had personally submitted the details to the agency, they had confirmed the receipt and even given me some reference number. For my dismay, I found both my ration card and LPG connections were d illegal. When I contacted the agency, they informed that they had submitted the details and same were not uploaded by the department of civil supplies. They informed according to them my connections are legal and valid. But who knows, their statements have no binding.
    To submit the details online is not easy. One has to scan the ration card, LPG receipt, electricity bill in black and white, edit it in photo-shop so that each document is in a prescribed format and then one can upload it.
    The system is so corrupt, one may have to bribe the people to get their legal connections to be d legal!
    Let the government remove subsidy. We are fed up

    @Ivan,Mangalore/Dubai
    Many people those who are criticising BJP state government might have forgotten that LPG connection was made so liberal during NDA regime that any one could have get it immediately on payment.Immediately after UPA I assumed power things roll back to earlier system and LPG become scarce providing oppertunity to unscrupulous persons to make black money.Kindly understand that genuine LPG users will have no problem.Every teathing problems in streamlineing the distibution system will be addressed effectively.Hence there is notification in the local newspapers.

    Inspite of submitting all required details the LPG connection to me and many others has been suspended. The Gas distributor for whom we were required to submit these documents says they have submitted the same to the CFS department. Can any one enlighten me who is responsible for this? and how to make them accountable for their lapses?
