Mangalore, Jul 27: The consumers here are battling the perplexity and fears of disconnection associated with their LPG connection at homes, following the uncertain and sudden act adapted for verifications by the Food and Civil Supplies department.
On finding out through the website that many of their connections were under the suspension category, the anxious consumers flocked into the offices of the DC, the Food and Civil Supplies department and the taluk offices.
The consumers were seen standing in a big queue and waiting to clarify about their gas connections. They had brought along with them, the documents relating to their connection, ration card, electricity bill. Separate counters have been set up at the DC office premises to deal with the gas connection related issues.
The frustration of the consumers at the department’s move was evident in their expressions. Many are of the opinion that the method undertaken by the department to sort out the issue and disconnect illegal issues is not right and have made way to lot of confusion. No one is against the department wanting to disconnect illegal gas connections but this is not the way to do it. The people who have honestly submitted their documents also are in trouble now, they lamented.
Deputy Commissioner, Channappa Gowda said that consumers need not visit the DC office personally. They can obtain the status of their LPG connection through their mobile phones. The method is simple. Type in KLVS and Click space bar, type in the gas agency’s landline code, then landline number and send the SMS to 924335523. The people who did not have computers or find it hard to operate can come to the offices and they will be given all the assistance by the staff, he assured.
The consumers also are questioning the department’s promise of sorting out the problem in just 15 days. The issue might surely take a long time to settle as the officers need to cross check details incase the consumers are residing in rented houses, they opined.
Eight new counters will be opened at DC’s office for consumers’ assistance, informed Channappa Gowda.
