Bangalore/New Delhi, Jul 28: It has now come from the horse's mouth that Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa's 38-month reign has come to an end, and the first saffron government in South India has plunged into deep crisis.
Central BJP spokesperson Ravi Prasad officially announced in New Delhi on Thursday morning that the BJP high command has asked Yeddyurappa to submit his resignation immediately and given him a deadline of 12 hours. On Friday, July 29, the senior leaders along with L K Advani, Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh and Sushma Swaraj wil meet state BJP leaders in Bangalore to decide the new BJP legislative leader in the state.
68-year-old B S Yeddyurappa, regarded as one of the most popular leaders on Bharatiya Janatha Party, had his Lingayat community's support including mutts around the state. Earlier during his tenure he survived atleast three crises whether it was rebellion within the party or governor's recommendation to remove him. But Karnataka Lokayukta N Santosh Hegde's report on illegal mining naming Yeddyurappa has proved to be the final nail in the coffin.
However, Yeddyurappa has not accepted high command's order to step down yet. He has called a meeting of state BJP MLAs and ministers at his residence on Thursday morning, defying high command's order.
This difference between Yeddyurappa and BJP high command could put the state government into deeper trouble.
