Modern Malayalam literature legend MT Vasudevan Nair turns 90


Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 15 (IANS): On Saturday, all roads are leading to the residence of legend of modern Malayalam literature MT Vasudevan Nair, who turned 90.

In morning, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury led the long list of well wishers who turned up at MT's house to wish the multi-faceted personality well.

In 1995, he was awarded the Jnanpith Award for his overall contribution to literature and in 2005, he was decorated with the country's third highest civilian honour Padma Bhushan.

Besides, he has won numerous prestigious literary awards in a writing career that began six decades back.

MT is also equally popular in the Malayalam film industry as one of the most successful story writer besides his screenplay has won him four national film awards, the most by anyone.

He directed seven films and wrote the screenplay for 54 films and when he joined hands with master filmmaker Hariharan, the outcome turned to be one of the biggest hits which include films like 'Panchangni', 'Oru Vadeken Veeragatha' and 'Amrutham Gamaya' to name a few.

His debut film 'Nirmalayam' as a director exactly five decades back won the national award for the beast feature film.

All the leading lights in Kerala, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, wished him well.
