Give politicians enough rope, they will give you another spin and I am confident that they are competent in this endeavor. These guys were poor, did not have access to education and were downtrodden, what choice did they have other than steal from a rich landlord? No, it does not matter that no banks today give finance to Agriculturists, and the fact that you can never be rich by being agriculturist. Where did you get this stupid idea, you may ask. This is the prevailing narrative in top cities in the only superpower in the world, the USA. Poor loot shopping center because they are hungry. It is a different matter the poor there are after iphones and expensive Italian handbags. Here the thieving was in aid of what sells, Supari.

I think it is due to insufficient education and outdated culture, where superstitious beliefs are valued, people get confidence to commit crimes.
