Udupi, Sep 7: The two-day celebrations of Sri Krishna Janmashtami and Vittalpindi festivities concluded here on Thursday, September 7 at the Sri Krishna Math.
Thousands of devotees who were gathered here from various parts of the country including Udupi witnessed the Sri Krishna Leelotsava. A beautiful clay idol of Lord Sri Krishna was taken in a golden chariot after performing the pooja to the idol.
The procession began in the afternoon at 3.15 pm, in front of the temple and was accompanied by Chande, singing of bhajans, huli vesha performance and participation of tableaux.
Mosaru Kudike breaking the pots filled with curd, milk and colours was eye catchy. A troupe dressed like Gollas broke the earthen pots tied to a pole which were installed around the car street.
Sri Vidyasagara Theertha of Paryaya Sri Krishnapura Math led the procession and was accompanied by Sri Vidyavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Sri Kaniyur Math.
A mid-day meal was served from 10 am till 3 pm. Thousands of devotees participated in the Anna prasada.
A clay idol of Lord Sri Krishna was taken around in a procession on a golden chariot around the Car Street after which the idol was immersed in the Madhwa Sarovara, thus signifying the end of the two-day Sri Krishna Janmashtami festivities.
Thousands of tigers participated in the battle of tiger dance organised by Shiroor Math. Various tableaux, demon characters and other fancy dresses enthralled the audiences. Thousands of devotees participated in the Vitlapindi celebrations.
