Bengaluru, Sep 9: Chief minister (CM) Siddaramaiah said that the Christian Development Corporation will be established soon.
Speaking after inaugurating the Nativity of Birth of Virgin Mary (BVM) festivities at the St Mary’s Basilica at Shivajinagar in the city on Friday, Siddaramaiah said, “We have announced the formation of Christian Development Corporation in the budget itself. We have already reserved Rs 100 crore for the same. This will be done soon and an eligible president will be recruited.
“People of all religion and caste visit St Mary’s Basilica at Shivajinagar. Hence, this place has formed into a centre of communal harmony. I attend this festival of Nativity of BVM every year. This gives me immense pleasure.
“India itself is a centre of unity of various religions. There is no place for hatred in the name of religion or caste. Some are trying to project hatred as the culture of our country. Our government is committed to eradicate such forces and take stringent action against such people.
“None of the religions preach hatred towards mankind. But some cheaters, in the name of religion, are trying to divide people and societies. Our government will take severe legal action against such anti-socials. If anyone takes law unto hands in the name of immoral policing, they will be dealt according to law,” he said.
Meanwhile, CM Siddaramaiah also assured that he will look into the demands of the community leaders, who have asked to rename Shivajinagar Metro station as St Mary’s metro station and other two demands.
