Udupi: Woman duped while trying to sell goods through OLX, loses Rs 1.28 lacs in online fraud

Udupi, Sep 11: A woman who wanted to sell her goods through OLX ended up losing Rs 1.28 lacs in an online fraud.

Usha Kiran, the victim of the fraud had furnished on August 27 details of the goods she wanted to sell through OLX. A person who showed interest to buy the goods obtained her mobile number.
 
A woman telephoned the victim of the fraud from mobile No. 8602485583 and said that she would buy the goods and obtained the victim's google pay number saying that she did not have cash.
 
 
 
The victim received several QR codes from the same mobile No. 8602485583. The google pay of the victim opened up when she opened the QR codes.
 
An amount of Rs 1,28,496 was transferred from three accounts to other accounts between 10.20 am on August 27 and 12.15 pm on August 28.
 
A case under registration No. 235/2023 section 66 (c ), (D) IT Act section 419, 420 IPC has been registered at Udupi CEN police station in this connection.

    In Google pay the victim unwittingly might have not noticed that she had activated the pay button/page instead of receive! BTW, basic common sense says no fool also would pay a single rupee before inspecting the items, on sale, physically!!
