Uttara Kannada, Sep 15: A man, who is mason by profession, continues to do his job despite becoming the president of gram panchayat in the district.
Lazar Sylvester Rebello studied only till fifth grade. He started working as mason at the age of 15. He is the gram panchayat president of Neggu in Sirsi at present. But he has not forgotten his profession and continues to work as mason. He will be completing 50 years as mason shortly.
Lazar Sylvester is a renowned mason and contractor of his village. He has built many houses. He works for daily wages with his team of five to six boys.
Lazar does not have any financial difficulty. His two children are in good position. One of his sons is a bank employee and other works in Dubai. However, Sylvester says sitting idle at home is not right and earns Rs 800-1000 per day. Sylvester is a self-respected person and does not ask money from his sons.
Lazar was elected as gram panchayat president unanimously. But he continues to work as mason. He is a real role model to many of our politicians, who shun their profession even if they become a gram panchayat member.
