Mangaluru/Udupi, Sep 16: The coastal region is gearing up to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi festival on September 19. Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava Samitis, various temples dedicated to Lord Ganesha and general public who keep Lord Ganesha idol at home are preparing themselves to celebrate the festival with devotion.
Sugarcane has arrived in the market from various places. On Saturday, more sugarcane supply is expected. On September 17 and 18, harvest festival is also held prior to Ganesha Chaturthi.
With regards to the change of government holiday, the confusion is still not cleared. Though district in-charge minister of Dakshina Kannada, Dinesh Gundu Rao instructed the chief secretary of the government as well as the deputy commissioner (DC), to take necessary steps to change the date from September 18 to 19, DC Mullai Mugilan said that the request is sent to the government and the government has to take the final decision.
The DC of Udupi Vidyakumari said that a letter is sent to the state government to give a public holiday on September 19 instead of September 18. MLA Yashpal Suvarna said that the government holiday declared on September 18 has created chaos among the public and an appeal is sent through DC to the government to declare holiday on September 19 itself.
Sharavu Raghavendra Shastri, administrative trustee of Sharavu Shri Mahaganapati temple of Mangaluru, K Sriramana Upadhyaya, administrative trustee of Anegudde Sri Vinayaka temple of Kundapur and Harish Rao Mundruppadi, president of management committee of Southadka Sri Mahaganapati temple confirmed that Ganesha Chaturthi will be celebrated on September 19.
