Mangalore, Aug 16:
Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare's campaign against the UPA government on the issue of the Jan Lokpal Bill permeated into the streets of Mangalore too, but with a twist, when two separate groups, both in favour of Hazare, clashed.

Though the members belonging to DK district Anti-corruption Forum and citizens of Mangalore gathered in front of the DC’s office on Tuesday August 16 in support of Hazare, an unexpected intervention from members of another group, who were also in support of Hazare and Jan Lokpal Bill, created problems.

89-year-old Namdev Shenoy, a senior Gandhian and freedom fighter of the city, was the only one allowed to address the protestors, however, another group of middle-aged people said that they had better ideas to share in support of Jan Lokpal Bill and Anna Hazare.

However, the protestors belonging to DK district Anti-corruption Forum said that it was a peaceful protest organised by them and since Namdev Shenoy was a veteran freedom fighter, only he could address the gathering and nobody else.

Heated discussions among the two factions ensued, and police intervened to calm down them down before the protest could resume peacefully.

Addressing the protestors Namdev Shenoy recalled that he was arrested by the police and put him jail when he was in the 7th standard for his involvement in the freedom struggle. He noted that in recent years the villages in India have been neglected the most by the government. Even the five year plans are not being properly implemented in rural areas, he said.

He condemned the arrest of Hazare and his team on August 16 morning and said it was an attempt by the government to curb the constitutional rights of the citizens to protest.

The protestors recited the mantra 'Jai Jagath' on his cue. The protest will go on till 6 pm and later a lamp will be lit to show solidarity towards Anna Hazare’s fight against corruption.

Dear All, It’s not the question whether the protestors are of X or Y party...The question is there are people on the streets protesting against corruption!! This is the 1st step which would help India to filter out the muck of the society , No matter which party the corrupt person belongs to !!..If you and I are of NO party, then we would gladly welcome this protest because this is the first process of cleaning India of the corruption.
India WAS and IS one of the richest country with lots of resources.65 years ago, we drove the English fellows stating that they were looting our country!! They looted but at least they did contribute for the development of India..... Has anything changed now?? NO!!! It’s worse now!! India is still getting looted by people who are supposed to be leaders and guarding and developing India...Once the corruption is minimized and the corrupt leaders punished through the bill, India would regain her Glory and shine in the whole world.People comment on Anna hazare stating that he is doing it for publicity and money,,,,,, can anyone give any explanation as why would this man who is so old, do a drama for publicity at this age ????? I will give the critics one reason!!!! Cause young people who should be fighting for India against corruption are either a part of the corrupt web or happily in the Middle East or in the west!!!! Come on people, if anyone is fighting against the corruption you and I need to join hands to help India restore her Glory!!

You can talk nonsense over here abt a person who joined army, not you, who could come up with a model village and not you, who could make sure he could change life for so many below poverty line lifes not you.. All tht you know abt is to scrib. which you r good at it. and ya you are poroud of it.. Continue.. because thats all in your hands..

    Dear Perci,
While you fled this country to earn money abroad, that lone man was fighting corruption al the time. Please at least try to know his past and background b4 saying such demeaning words against such a great man..Here are few of his achievements:
In 1978, he took voluntary retirement from the 9th Maratha Battalion and returned home to Ralegaon Siddhi, a village in Maharashtra's drought-prone Ahmadnagar. He was 39 years old.

He found farmers back home struggling for survival and their suffering would prompt him to pioneer rainwater conservation that put his little hamlet on the international map as a model village.

The villagers revere him. Thakaram Raut, a school teacher in Ralegaon Siddhi says, "Thanks to Anna's agitations, we got a school, we got electricity, we got development schemes for farmers.''

Anna Hazare's fight against corruption began here. He fought first against corruption that was blocking growth in rural India. His organization - the Bhrashtachar Virodhi Jan Andolan (People's movement against Corruption). His tool of protest - hunger strikes. And his prime target - politicians.

Maharashtra stalwarts like Sharad Pawar and Bal Thackeray have often called his style of agitation nothing short of "blackmail".

But his weapon is potent. In 1995-96, he forced the Sena-BJP government in Maharashtra to two corrupt Cabinet Ministers. In 2003, he forced the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) state government to set up an investigation

    Dear Percy...
What a cheap comment by yourself.
Why are you bothered what he was doing during his youth days, what matters is now he has started an agitation against curruption and your dutyy and responsibility is to support him rather than pointing finger over what he is doing.
I ask you what have you done or doing on your part to eradicate corruption from the country.
I think by your words you are also in your youth age now.
what will you do in future for the betterment of the nation.

Anna has a cause but his intention needs to be watched, if he is neutral then he may be honest which is a good news. However the political parties in power and in the opposition must stop blaming each other and work together for this cause.Party in power today can be in the opposition tomorrow and vice versa and nothing will change as they are hell bent on opposing each other whether good or bad, to suit their politcals intentions. Does curruption will stop even after passing Lokpal Bill as drafted by Mr. Anna & Co.? Never. N number of Bills are passed in parliamnet but nothing is done in life of general public. There is elected opposition party in Parliament to take care of ruling party. Mr. Anna & Co. has to fight the election and join the Democratic process instead of spoiling peace in the society. I respect his cause but not the way he does.

I agree with Mr.Percy Noronha, Mangalore, Muscat . where was Anna for the last 50 years ? Was corruption started just five or ten years back ? It took so many years for Anna to garner the courage to go on fast and fight corruption then how one can eradicate corruption with a single Jan Lokpal Bill ? I respect Anna for his vision and hard work but the way Team Anna following is wrong . Let us fight corruption in our way in our daily life . Lets full value of the flat when we do the registration , Lets not bribe to get any sort of licenses,Let us not bribe the police to avoid traffic case, let all of us vote in election and choose right candidate irrespective of their political party . You and me can stop corruption , try to stop corruption but think which way you want to go.

    Dear Percy Noronha, Mangalore, Muscat...
Don't look at the individual, look at the cause. Here's this guy at the age of 79 fighting for a generation which he may not see. Have some shame and stop making sarcastic remarks about someone who's willing to give away his life for the cause. The pathetic state of our country is because of people like you who don't make any contribution to the society instead pass ridiculous comments on those who try to make some change. Percy, India jaag gaya hai ab TUM JAAGO... Its disgusting to see some of the comments in this forum ridiculing Anna Hazare. Change your mentality. When something good is happening support it. God save this country from politicians and people who don't appreciate good work.

    Corruption was there before !
    Corruption is there now !!
    Corruption will continue !!!
This is universal in every country

Where was Anna during his youth days when corruption going on? At this age it is better for him to live a peaceful retired life in his house. I am sure more than 50% of the supporters do not know what is Lokpal Bill. They only know the word corruption. And all of those 50% are involved in corruption even now. Does it mean those supporters really mean to eradicate corruption. Tomorrow if they are put behind the bars they will bribe to come of the jail. Jago India Jago.

This is the civility of Civil society. Today battle for mike tomorrow for Topi (Cap). Mahatma would never appreciate this. Mahatma was above Babas and Bibis. He had a dream for India for self rule. Thats why we have working democracy. Elected members listen to non elected self proclaimed leaders. This so called civil society need to respect the process than pressing their own agenda of  publicity.

Comments by ajit is as good as asking Gandhi Ji to join British rule and then ask for Indian independence. Such things has never worked and will not work because of internal resistence. We need to support Anna and anyone else vows to do something against corruption.
Please do not say that this is anti people, as you appear to be not aware of how poor people are suffering because of corruption in all government run programmes, NREGA included. Many reports have shown that.

this is all tricks by Anna to have violence all over the country. he is really playing his cards very well. see his pics while arresting, his face value clearly mentions that what he is expecting and it is done the same... Mr Anna if you really want to end corruption and bring LOKPAL BILL, then dont do this acts . come to politics, fight election and if will then u bring this BILL. you are insulting the goverment which has given full majority. you are insulting the ppls verdict. this type of  acts is really gona create problems to the daily workers who work 100-200 Rs for daily earnings, and even you are spreading violence by this.
