Lucknow, Aug 17: Soon after minister of state for animal husbandry and dairy development Awadh Pal Singh Yadav tendered his resignation after being indicted by the UP Lokayukta for corruption, Chief Minister Mayawati issued a statement supporting Anna Hazare's crusade against corruption.

Opposition parties including BJP, Samajwadi Party, Congress and Lok Dal termed it as a drama and stated that resignation was accepted after the minister was found guilty on various corruption charges and his involvement in a triple murder case. The political parties pooh-poohed the 'moral ground' phrase used by indicted minister Awadh Pal for his resignation claiming that the government is running on immoral ethics and thus not much morality can be expected from them.

After Awadh Pal's resignation CM Mayawati stated that BSP's origin was due to the oppression and harassment of poor by various political parties after independence. She stated that BSP is against criminalisation and corruption and has been supporting Anna's crusade since it began in the country. Mayawati also decried the Congress led UPA government as unconstitutional and stated that civil society members who are waging a battle against corruption should be invited for talks for a mutually agreeable Lokpal bill.
