Fodder scam: Pleas of Lalu, Jagannath Mishra Rejected

Patna, Aug 18 (IANS): A Bihar court Thursday dismissed the discharge petitions filed by former Bihar chief ministers Lalu Prasad and Jagannath Mishra, among 11 accused, in a scam related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs.47 lakh from the state treasury to purchase fodder for public distribution, court officials said.

A designated Central Bureau of Investigation court dismissed the discharge petitions after hearing the arguments in the case.

After the arguments were completed in the first week of August, the court fixed Aug 18 to pronounce an order on the discharge petitions, court officials said.

The court also directed both Lalu Prasad and Jagannath Mishra to attend the proceedings on the next date of hearing.

The fodder case was filed against Lalu Prasad, Mishra and other accused for hatching a conspiracy for fraudulent withdrawal of Rs.47 lakh from the Bhagalpur treasury between 1995 and 1996.
