Puttur: Four Arrested for Forcing Religious Conversions

Puttur: Four Arrested for Forcing Religious Conversions

Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Aug 29: Four persons, reportedly belonging to a Christian sect, were handed over to the police by the residents of Boodujal of Nedle village near Uppinangady on Sunday August 28. The locals, including some dalits, accused K J Kunhimonu (30) from Mundruppady in Dharmasthala, Saino P T (23), Lenny (26), and Mary (60) from Amminadka in Kalenja village, of visiting their homes every Sunday since a month, handing over books aimed at achieving their religious conversions, and advising them to pray to Jesus.

It is said that the houses which were targeted by the groups belong to dalits and economically backward Hindus. The locals said that the foursome forced them to convert into Christianity on Sunday. “When we refused, the visitors showed aggression, assaulted us, and spoke derogatorily on the basis of our caste affiliations,” the locals, who got together and handed these four people to the policemen, claimed.

Prema Mugera, a dalit from the locality, said in her police complaint that the group had berated her on the basis of her caste affiliation, and that the Hindu gods she believed in were derided with abusive words. Pravin, another resident, said that two members of the gang held his collar and assaulted him when he refused their demand for religious conversion.

The policemen of Uppinangady police station, who have registered cases against the above four people, have also registered complaint against two youth from Nedle relating the assault on the members of the said team.

Swarnesh, president of Hindu Jagaran Vedike, alleged that the policemen had initially not registered the complaint given by Prema Mugera. He also said that the station house officer had meted out injustice to the people of Nedle by registering counter-complaints against two residents, with the ulterior purpose of favouring the wrongdoers.

I know Roman Catholics will never do that. I remember in kudrolli temple Catholic Nuns offered the gold, silver and even joined whole heartedly in pooja. Cathoic nuns offed "hannu kaie", ate prasadha and also received the arathi. Catholics are very closely associated with Hindus in religious ritulas. Roman Catholics also keep statues as Hindus do. Bell is common in both riligions as per sri sri Ravishanker.

I do not why all these things are going on. There are several denominations in Christians, it is definately not the Roman Catholics (Major Group ) who carry on with conversion. It is by some other denomination to defame the Roman Catholics. Actually Christs message is not convert but have affection on everyone and respect everyone and treat everyone with brotherly attitude. After all whatever the religion or denominations in the religion they should not do any kind of conversion instead they make human beings as one religion as human religion. Let all understand that everyone borns as human and dies as human and religion is man made for betterment but today religion is being used for self motives. We should respect every one as human.

When we Catholics, show our discomfort when people with bible come to our houses for preaching imagine what will be the attitude of people following other religions. This becomes an excuse to trouble the peace loving and helpful Catholics by some fanatics who are waiting for opportunity. All religions should co-exist since all religions preach humanity, love and peace. imagine if there is only one relgion, one tradition, one community this World would be so boring. The best option would be these people with bible should try and bring back the Europeans, Americans and britishers who fall to drugs and free life by joing OSho community back to christianity. However, I cannot buy the story that they were trying to convert forcibly, this needs to be investigated.

Recently, we have been hearing lot of cases of conversion in Uppinangady police jurisdiction. If Uppinangady police read the Indian constitution or at least understand the IPC, they don't have to register the cases under pressure from bigots.

How about converting Uppinangady police force?

    Dear All My Hindu Friends,

The converting Group is not a Roman Catholics. I think there are two groups. One is RC and other is Missionaries? Someone who attempts to convert others to a particular doctrine or religion. They are not originally Christians. They are the peopel of converting mission or Someone sent on a mission especially a religious or charitable mission to a foreign country. My native place is Bantakal and in between Shankarapura and Shirva where a lots of RC people located. I never heard about those people converted somebody. I seen one Roman catholic converted to Missionaries! So Missionries converting not only Hindus but they convert RC also!I visited Attur, Shirva and Shankarpura Chruch and visited Mosque at Dubai Since nobody encourage me to convert!. Missionaries remote villages and poor people, they offer money to poor and encourage to convert this is what I know. Long back I visited one remote village in Karkala where found such churches. I think those churches are called "JESUS" Churches. If I'm wrong please apologize me.

If you are belong to Brahman family, you should not use this web site because this web site is run by Christians. Don't you think that by using this website you are also converted. Why people like you are afraid of anything after death. We have some biological reactions in our body , thats why we are thinking and living.

the moment that biological reaction stops, our thinking process will stop (literally die) and since our body is made of organic contents it will deteriorate.

I am happy that you know religion is man made but i want to extend it to say that this god itself is man made concept.

We can think, and our thinking has no boundaries so we invented gods to put boundary.
There are lot to understand , i don't think you are capable of understanding it.
live by keeping you mind open and standing bold.

    Dear all.
Please know the fact,Religion is man made,It all depends to which family you born to, Christian, Hindu or Muslim !Why fight among our self ?Beside whole world Believes that Jesus will be returning soon to establish his kingdom of Love and righteousness forever.Even Quran says so.Accepting Jesus is the only way to Heaven its says in the Bible. Do you say Bible is Wrong?
Bible never talks about conversion into another religion. What if you Die today where will you spend your eternity? Quite scary Hah? Well if you read the Bible you will find answers. Forget the God Damn Religion and So called Conversion! Stop fighting like Beast, Open your mind and think of what I have written !
Final word . Its better to know the way( Heaven ) then to get lost in darkness for eternity !Your body will die,but your spirit never dies, It has to go to heaven or hell( Depends on our choice)SO chose wisely,Do not be religious

Again and again such kind of news is appearing in the media. We all know that no religion can guarantee a person, heaven after death by default, if one really believes in the existence of the same. It is the kind of life that one leads, finally qualifies him to HEAVEN or MOKSHA, as believed by all religions. Then why these stupid people are taking all the trouble to convert? Who is getting the benefit? Jesus never wanted to form a "religion" may be, he only went on converting the hearts of the people by narrating simple parables, which are so very moralistic and humane. He went on preaching way of life, questioning the ills of the society. Today poor Jesus is the most misunderstood entity among both his believers and non believers. For some, he is just a "BRAND" to make money. And, again poor Jesus has nobody to defend him and clear his name out of this dirt created to serve the selfishness of the few as to what he said and what he did not say about "GOD" or about himself.

I humbly request the CATHOLIC COMMUNITY RELIGIOUS LEADERS TO PUBLICLY CONDEMN these outfits and warn them from bringing to disrepute, both christianity and "JESUS" in particular. Freedom is to be exercised with responsibility. Constitution should not be quoted out of context for destabilizing communal harmony and creating rift among communities. Enough harm is already been done. At the same time, no exercise can educate those people who can rent a riot or those who just breath hatred.

Recently, while being in Glasgow, I met this missionary from South Africa. I am not a religious person and having done Psychology, has patience while dealing with specimens. This man went on and on, despite being brushed off, how Jesus could uplift me, how he is the only path, how I was going the wrong way without redeeming my sinned soul etc. etc. Although I did not want to retaliate, I could not prevent myself from asking questions about what he thought of other religions that existed before Jesus. He said, all were wrong and that was why people from other religions should be given a chance to come out of these shackles. I asked him whether keeping an open mind and respecting all was not the right thing to do. He said, no, people should be converted and he would die for it. Before coming out of his clutches, I suggested that he should go to Middle East and Pakistan and convert them all! Missioneries could be tiresome!

Jesus never told to force any one. There are few sects, who believe only in preaching but they themselves do not practice what Jesus said! Even they visit catholic houses and irritate them daily. It’s better to practice Christianity and lead by example with good deeds, by helping poor people in their difficulties like Mother Theresa did. If they like your good deeds they will convert themselves no need to force them. Pharsis used to put big loads on the back of people but they themselves never gave helping hand. So Jesus said, listen to them but don’t practice what they do?

It would be interesting to find out which group is this? Catholics should now alert all their neighbours about the difference between Catholics and other smaller sects. We need to forge a closer bond with our neighbours, so that these small sects get isolated. However, it is difficult to believe that two people could catch the collar of someone and assault him in front of so many people and that too for conversion. If the story is true, it is a shame and disgrace to this group.

People who do not have faith in God will change their direction as they like. We Roman Catholics will never do these type of conversions. As per the bible (roman catholics) we have to help others irrespective of caste and communities (Caste & Communities are made by humans on earth because of wealth) and can not disturb others.
Nagesh, your comments are also looks like misunderstanding in your life. You are hurting others and not going to gain anything on these type of comments.

This is just another group of people in the name of religion to bring unhappiness and misunderstanding between people.

No matter whatever religion we follow, GOD is only one and we call him in different names. We have only one religion and that is HUMANITY don't forget that.

Father of Nation mahatma gandhi said "I am a Muslim and a Hindu and a Christian and a Jew and so are all of you" so I request you to read your statement twice before commenting.

Forcing one to change religion is against the wish of God. Each individual should practice the religion in which they have born. Each religion has some good things in it and some not good. Ofcourse, few people inorder to spread their reglion, use few methods to lure / force weak people It is common knowledge that individuals belonging to weaker economic segment and people with financial problems or mental imbalances are the target of some vested interests. It is important to note that one can practice his
god given religion and still incorporate some good/noble ideas of other religions. It is also important we should be good human beings.

Many years back i was at home on Sunday morning, when most of the christens will be at church for weekly mass.
Two people can to our house, one was lady might be 26/27 years old and other was middle aged man. i thought they might be some far relative of mom side, since i didn’t know most of them, he had side purse, i though might be they have come to invite for wedding, not knowing their intension i allowed them to come inside, than he took out leaf let, they were from new life or other bible community. i told them immediately to get out of my house and also informed my neighbor not to let them in.
Basically what i am saying is yes people are there who try to convert other in the name of Christianity, no one should convert with out once will, and it is not to so easy to covert to Christianity. People who force other or involved in such activity are not true christen and some people in society also take undue advantage of such situation to do blame game. As someone said below God is seeing every thing, people will be made accountable in God’s court if not here.

Christianity is the only religion who wants to preach more and have more conversions today people hate us for this attitude. Everyone is born with a religion let them practise their own faith. If they feel there is something great about our Religion they will practise our religion without converting. Please stop this for God sake there is so much happening in this world with one name Religion. Christians preach saying other GOD’s are bad which is a real shame to say. Lets all believe there is just one God and let people live in peace. I have seen some good Christians they never preach, simple lives and really holy in their ways, but the ones who preach do have a horrible background and that is just dreadful.
