Udupi, Jan 11: In a jubilant atmosphere filled with anticipation and excitement, St Mary's English Medium School in Kannarpady (CBSE) is set to host the grand ruby jubilee celebrations on January 12, at the school premises. This momentous occasion marks 40 years of dedicated service to education, excellence, and holistic development.

The school, known for its commitment to nurturing young minds, has lined up an array of programmes and events throughout the year as part of the Ruby Jubilee celebrations. These initiatives not only reflect the school's rich history but also demonstrate its ongoing dedication to fostering a holistic learning environment.

The ruby jubilee celebrations programme will be held in the school grounds. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop diocese of Udupi will preside over the programme. Yashpal Suvarna, alumnus and MLA Udupi Dr K Vidyakumari, deputy commissioner Udupi Dr Yallamma, BEO Udupi Dr Ranjan Shetty, HOD cardiology, Manipal Hospitals Bengaluru and alumnus of the school will be the chief guests for the ruby jubilee celebrations. Fr Anthony M Shera, secretary Catholic Board of Education Fr Vincent Crasta, secretary Catholic Educational Society Udupi diocese Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MP and minister Pramodh Madhwaraj, former minister Raghupathi Bhat, former MLA Jayakar Sherigar, president Kadekar gram panchayat, and Dr Jerry Vincent Dias, M D Mandavi Developers will be guests of honour.

The ruby jubilee celebrations have been a culmination of various events, each designed to commemorate the school's journey and highlight its achievements. The year-long festivities have seen an impressive blend of academic, cultural, and sports activities, bringing together students, teachers, alumni, and the local community.

A number of programmes were organized throughout the year by the school considering the all-round development of the students. The ruby jubilee was inaugurated on Jun 15 by the bishop emeritus of Mangalore diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza along with Yashpal Suvarna, MLA Udupi and other dignitaries.

The school also organized ‘Samaritans Lifeline’ blood donation camp in association with Lions Club Udupi midtown, Lions Club Prakruthi and Kasturba Hospital Manipal blood bank. ‘Guruvandana’ programme to honour and felicitate the teachers for their selfless service was also marked as part of the jubilee celebrations. In a view to form a cordial relation with the alumni the school organised an alumni meet too.

The grand event of the jubilee celebrations was the ‘Ruby Run’ marathon organized for students, and the general public. The event saw an amazing response from the public and students.

The school also organized an international tour for the students to Singapore and Malaysia. During the international tour, the students were taken to different places of tourist attractions, historical places, museums, and war memorials. Marina Bay Sky Park, Gardens by the Bay, the botanical gardens with a variety of plant species of different countries, Merlion, Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, Sentosa Island, Singapore fly over with giant capsule ride and time capsule Journey, Fort Siloso and the world-famous universal studios were the main attractions in Singapore.

The attractions in Malaysia were Jonker Walk Night Market-Melaka, Statue of St Francis Xavier Malacca, Legoland, Water Park Johor, Petronas Twin Tower, Berjaya Times Square Kaula Lumpur, K L Tower, Genting Highlands, Batu Caves, Gondola cable car ride, Portuguese Heritage Gallery, Harriston chocolate making unit, Putra Mosque, Seri Wawasan Bridge, the Tugu Negara War memorial.

As the school community eagerly awaits the Ruby Jubilee celebrations, the organizing committee has ensured that the event will be a memorable and joyous occasion for everyone involved. The festivities will include cultural performances, musical acts, and a showcase of talents, providing a platform for students to express their creativity and artistic flair.

A journey of 40 years in a nutshell

St Mary's English medium school we as established in 1984 in the premises of Mother of sorrows Church Udupi by Catholic Board of Education, diocese of Mangaluru. The dream of CBE was actualized by the visionary leadership of Fr JP Tauro under the guidance of successive correspondents Fr Peter Theodre D’Souza, Fr Peter S Noronha, Fr Anthony Shera. The school grew into a trustworthy icon for excellence and competence in the field of education.

The school was shifted to a magnanimous 10 acres campus at Kannarpady during 2010-11. This dream was materialized by the leadership of correspondents Fr Mathew Vaz, Fr Fredrick Mascarenhas, Fr Valerian Mendonca. In August 2013, the school secured affiliation from CBSE board, New Delhi. In 2016 the school was upgraded to a senior secondary school with science and commerce streams. St Mary's play school was started in 2023. The management of the school was shifted from CBE, Mangaluru to Catholic Educational Society, Udupi with effect from January 1.

St Mary's English medium school is consistently achieving outstanding results in academics, sports, art and music with great calibre under the leadership of correspondent Fr Charles Menezes, principal Fr Johnson Sequeira, and vice principal Rita Quadrous. At present the school has a promising student strength of 1745 which is facilitated by 79 teaching and 43 non-teaching staff.
