Udupi, Jan 17: The Udupi City municipality has officially removed the unscientifically constructed humps on the road in the central part of Udupi city, which had raised concerns after a series of accidents reported near the Court Road in the heart of the city.

    This what called as wasting public money. Without proper planning, they constructed the hump even without having the risk assessed. Now it has been removed. Only the contractor got filled with his pockets and all the tax money paid by the citizens is gone down to drain. Where are all the guys, those write about Modi when he implements things after a rightful survey ? and who claim he is wasting and making vote banks.

    Front of Court road humps were entirely scientifically sound. I am not sure why they removed it. Court road is the busiest route, and most school and college students, lawyers, and other court personnel crossing the road on zeebra cross line find it extremely useful. Humps appear more ambiguous even while driving (see humsp image). It's terribly unfortunate that it was gone! If we drive in a 40-speed limit, this humsp is not as dangerous for any motorcycles; nevertheless, if we increase the speed, it becomes dangerous. court road must always be driven in a 40-speed restriction.

    Good designed pedestrian bridges are needed at such high density crossings not just in Udupi, but in many places throughout India including on highways and expressways. These pedestrian bridges should be disabled friendly or wheelchair accessible as well so that even elderly people can walk without having to climb the stairs. So many people lose their lives when crossing the roads. Roads are getting better. As a result, vehicles are driven faster without regard to speed limits. In many cases speed limit signs are not there and so, enforcement will be a problem too.

    Sir you are correct that we need speed breakers near the court complex. Unfortunately, these are humps came up overnight, and they were unusually big. Also, there was no proper signages about these new humps. So, the motorists who would usually take this route everyday might have been in for a surprise when there was a sudden unexpected 2 to 3 ft wide hump. Somone actually fell and sustained injuries as well. That's why they were removed. There was an article earlier on these new humps following which municipal corporation has acted swiftly to remove the humps. Like many of the readers suggested in previous article, they can consider putting yellow-black-ready made speed brakers or rumblers wherever necessary with proper signages. If done correctly it will help public.

    First of all they must inquire who permitted to put unscientific humps. Now double the cost laying and removing. Who's money they're spending??? I think in Udupi municipality most of the people are working without proper knowledge. DC must take action immediately. Who's accountable for this loss.???

    Rubber Black And Yellow Road / Speed Hump must be fixed on the road instead of tar hump which is commonly installed in gulf countries.
