Mangaluru, Feb 3: Thousands flocked to the Kelarai Church ground on the second day of ‘Pepere Pepe Dum’, the first-ever brass band festival.
Chief guests at the event included Fr Denis D’Sa, PRO of Udupi diocese; Fr Charls Menezes, vicar forane of Udupi deanery; Walter Nandalike, founder of Daijiworld media; Melvyn Rodrigues, convenor, Konkani language, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi; Henry D’Silva Surathkal, movie producer; Vincent Cutinho, entrepreneur; Rudolph Joy Noronha, GM of MRPL; Alexis Castelino, director, Daijiworld TV; Austin Peris, secretary, Link D Addiction Committee; Ronald Silvan D’Souza, MD of Lexa Lighting; Eric Corea, entrepreneur; Prashanth Jattanna, founder of Big J TV; Liston D’Souza, vice president of KNS; Clara Pinto from Fermai, and Celine D’Mello from Kelarai.
Applauding the organizers and Daijiworld TV, Fr Denis said, "Pepere Pepe Dum is a creative and successful event. It is a great honour to our brass band artistes and a stage for country dance performers and singers. It will undoubtedly contribute to reviving the brass band culture at events, allowing the younger generation to learn about it."
Walter Nandalike said, "Brass band is an emotion for many of us. No digital instrument can replace the live brass band. People who digitize brass band tunes should remember they are taking away livelihood from brass band artists. It should not happen."
Pepere Pepe Dum, an exclusive brass band fest and competition for country dancers and singers organized by Ami Ani Amchi and Daijiworld TV, will conclude on Sunday February 4, with the presence of stage energy minister K J George and state assembly speaker U T Khader. Known entrepreneur and philanthropist Ronald Colaco will also grace the event.
