Mangaluru/Udupi, May 2: As the summer heat intensifies, the price of eggs has dropped in Mangaluru and Udupi. From around Rs 6.50, the price has decreased to Rs 5.50 per egg. Some shops with surplus stocks are selling 10 eggs for Rs 52.
The wholesale price of eggs has fallen to Rs 4.80 to 4.90, down from Rs 5.20 a few days ago.
This reduction in prices is attributed to the challenge of preserving eggs in stock amidst the scorching summer temperatures. Additionally, with Anganwadi play schools closed for summer holidays, there is less demand for eggs, as they were previously large consumers. Furthermore, there is a perception among the public that eggs generate heat during summer, leading to a decline in consumption.
Traders anticipate that prices will rise again once the onset of summer rains cools the region.
